Question 100k service, need some inputs

I am getting ready to do my 100k service. i am going to do it myself, and since this is my first CTD, i would like some advice on the products i should buy. Here is a list of parts/systems that i am going to change, if you could give me your two cents on what brands/types i should be looking for.....

fuel filter
nv5600 tranny fluid
power steering fluid
front/read diff's
transfer case
engine oil/filter
coolant system flush

i know i can get this info from the mannual, but i really value the opinion of the people that live and breath these trucks.

2003 5.9l 305/555 H.O. QC long bed 4x4 (i have wanted a CTD for 15 years and i finnaly have my baby!

I run only Fleetguard Fuel Filters....made by Cummins for Cummins. I run the 7 micron in the fuel filter housing and a 2 micron spin on filter after it, but that was an aftermarket add on from Glacier Diesel (GDP).

Can't help on the NV5600...but im sure others will chime in.

Power Steering.............Just use Mopar ATF +4 (auto trans fluid)

Front/Rear Diffs............Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil....but any 75w90 (not heavier!!!! like on the 1500 trucks) Synthetic GL5 rated gear oil is fine.

Transfer Case.............same as Power steering. Use Mopar ATF+4 (auto trans fluid)

Engine Oil/Filter.............I use Shell Rotella Synthetic 5w40...Fleetguard Stratapore filter

Coolant system............Zerez G-05 mixed 50/50 with Distilled Water

Go to a local cummins dealer and get fleetguard fuel and oil filters. Get 6 qts of royal purple synchromax or some amsoil synchromesh manual tranny fluid. Your tranny will only hold 4.5 qts but its a good idea to over fill by a qt or so. Amsoil makes good differental fluid too, not sure on the amounts. Im not sure about the transfer case either but you can look on the amsoil site, while your on there order 3 gallons of 15/40 fully synthetic marine diesel oil. I would just go to your local parts store and get a quality coolant system flush. Thats just my .02.

thanks for the help! hey texasCTD, do i run 75-90 in both front and rear diff's?

98whitelightnin, i have heard that AMSOIL is $$$, i dont care too much about the cost because i want my 3rd gen truck to last for at least 3 more generations. can you hook me up with the AMSOIL web site or tell me where i can fine the stuff. i have heard nothing but good things about amsoil, and if it is as good as they say, i have no issues with forking out the dough.

Yes, front and rear on the diffs..(75w90). Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on Amsoil. Im not knocking it, im sure it's good stuff, but I replace my fluids so often that I just don't think it would be that beneficial.

I change the oil/filter every 5k. Fuel Filter every 10k. Auto trans (drain and refill, and change filter), transfer case, diffs F and R, and power steering every 20K. I also drain and refill the radiator every 20k but have never "flushed".

Mine is about to turn 100K miles also....and im considering replacing the water pump/serpentine belt/radiator hoses/batteries basically as maintenance items now....before i find out their limits. I'd just rather do things like this on a schedule at a time and place of my choosing...than on the side of the road somewhere.

I believe in maintenance but WOW bad overkill. Most a fair amount too soon and it came with a 5 year coolant. As water pump, belt, hoses and batteries might do the belt but first a close inspection of it..Load test batteries and if OK that's all.

I see what your saying HOUNDDOG, but i bought the truck second hand and i want to take this oppurtunity to get a good base line of the truck. it gives me a piece of mind knowing that the items listed are good-to-go. like i said earlier, i have wanted a CTD for so long, and now that i have one, i want to what i can to keep it around. plus it is a good chance to learn about my truck by doing the maintainence on my own.
what did you mean about the water pump? is that something i should change? or are you saying i should just look it over real well.

Proper maintance is one thing but some seem way overboard.

No disagreement with you on this, HD. I just like keeping a schedule with it and I would rather err on the side of overkill, than not enough. Plus I enjoy doing it and keeps me up to date on what's going on in/around/under my truck.

Seems like I hear of quite a few failures on here around the 100k or a little over......mark. Waterpumps are pretty cheap (relatively speaking)....so I thought i'd go ahead and replace it pretty soon when I do my other maintenance stuff. Actually....it would be around 110K when I do it.
