If you just need a scan tool, I picked one up at Harbor Freight for like $20 last year. I'm sure they still have them there. It was the better one that read and cleared codes too.

 

I dont think the HF code readers do CAN truck/cars?????
have you used it on your 06 yet???

 

Honestly, I've never tried it. I bought it and just threw it in the glove box.

Well it started!! I was able to get my junk of a laptop to hook up to the truck...there was no freeze frame data..so maybe it was just a glitch..but I cleared the codes and she fired right up!!!
I am pretty mad that it left my dead over this
I guess I better get some sort of quick code reader/clear for future use...



I must apologize to the guys who said MAP sensor, cause it called it a map/barometric pressure sensor code when I read it with my laptop..but in my manual it called it a IAT code????

BTW this is the first time I have hooked my scanner to the truck and to my surprise it gave me a real time rail pressure reading!!!!! along with a slew of other sensors that I thought I would have to have the enhanced package to read!!! this has turned into a pretty good learning experience

GRRRR ok it runs but I just went outside to unhook the scanner and it showed two "unknown" codes....the scanner called it U3f00 and u3fff but I have never heard of a code like this before??? I don't know it it is a real code or just a code the scanner uses when it cant read something...like the CTD ECM
I guess it's time to go to the dealer and let them read it...

 

GRRRRRR. Frustrating!!!

 

I am pretty sure I need to get the enhanced software to figure out what these other codes are...
I will call my scantool support and get Monday and see what happens...

I had to update my laptop to one with a 2.0 usb port cause thats what the tool runs off of but I was using a 1.0usb and it kept freezing the laptop up
so I bought a new laptop instead of a smarty
and I bought the expansion software for the cummins trucks so I can read ALL!!! the powertrain codes.......
Cheap OBDII code reader/clear DO NOT READ all the P-codes on a cummins......
