06 Ram 2500, 70k Miles - accelerates while braking

So it started yesterday. Driving down the road with no problems. Then I turned onto my street a block away from home.

The truck is trying to accelerate with my foot on the brake. This happens in DRIVE or REVERSE. As soon as I put it into gear with my foot on the brake it does this. At first, I thought it was some sort of sticky throttle, however, the peddle responds totally normal in neutral. Try to put it in drive or reverse and it wants to take off and surge with your foot on the brake. In park, it sits and idles normally.

Can anyone explain what the problem would be? Please.

Sounds like you may have a torque converter problem. I am no auto expert but sounds like the front cover of the torque converter has deformed causing the clutch to drag. Could also be a hydraulic issue or could be a problem with the electronic controls for that circuit. Does it die when you come to a stop?

You didn't say, but is it smoking hard when this happens? If so, see post in this forum under my name-having similar issues, but mine is some fuel or sensor issue.

Pull the inspection cover off the bell housing, put the truck in gear and let it idle for a few mins. Shut the truck off and see if the front cover of the torque converter has gotten very hot. Check the fluid and see if it's burnt.

I have not noticed any smoking. It doesn't die when I come to a stop, but I literally cannot stay stopped without throwing it into park or neutral as the truck is still trying to push forward. I checked the fluids, they are full, albeit a bit dirty but full, kind of a reddish color, does not look burnt. Climbing underneath the rig, I have not seen any abnormalities. If it is a torque converter than am i to assume that it will need the torque converter and a tranny rebuild? (whats that gonna set me back at a shop).

Update!!!!

So, I had already figured that I'd be stuck with some costly torque converter / transmission issue. I was doing some routine maintenance that needed to be done nonetheless. A corroded battery terminal cleaning, unhooked both batteries, trickle charged em up, then turned the key with the brake held down for a minute.

To my surprise when got the batteries back together and started up the truck, no issues whatsoever, went on a 20 minute drive and could not get the problem to duplicate and this morning before doing all of this, I couldnt even make it out of my driveway.

Anybody have any idea what the problem was????

My truck is doing the same thing. I'm going to try cleaning up all my connections after reading your post. Did you ever have it happen again?
