Just a quick note guys. Have you checked your odometer against the mile markers on the highway? My truck is stock and 100 miles on the road is 101.3 on my odometer. But you may have bigger tires and may be driving farther than you think per tankfull. Just a thought.

Sweet! That would give me a great reason to go out and get bigger tires.

My truck was located by my delaer and they send a driver to get it. When I received it, it had over 400 miles on it from the return trip and the miles it had on it at original dealer. When I got in it, it had an average of 16.5 mpg. I thought that was pretty good being that it was brand new and the dual wheel 4X4 tank that it is.

I have seen 17.5 to 18 if I reset it and watch it on the freeway alone. (empty)

But, realworld driving for me does not include all highway. I am now a little over 1000 miles. On the tank that I never reset the computer, it is closer to 13. That includes short trips, pulling a 5x8 utility trailer with dirtbike (doesn't even know its there), and some idleing.

I hope it does get better, but this is a big truck and it looks like it will do decent on the highway.

BTW....I hooked up my 36ft enclosed gooseneck race trailer up and made a short trip. The computer showed 9 then. Didn't expect anything better there.

I just took a 2300 mile round trip down I-10 to Phoenix and back. I ran a couple of tanks with power service (white bottle) and got 14.5 hand calc (15.1 on the overhead) the tanks without PS averaged 13.3 Hand calc and 14.6 overhead. I had 900 miles on it when I left, and was pulling a small enclosed trailer (about 3300k #'s), cruise set on 75. I will say that the truck is a major bad a$$, with the CC on it never lost even 1 mph or even thought about downshifting on the hills, this alone is worth the extra $$'s for the CTD. This mileage is about 3-4 mpg better than the Hemi, still I would have hoped for more (15 to 16). From what I've read here it looks like avg mpg for the CTD is around 14-15 w/ a small load. Sure would be nice if there was a magic "flash". I may take it in when I get back from AR.

Dale,

Try out the PSD in the Gray bottle (it gives higher centane to your fuel over the white bottle) and also add 4-8 oz of MMO to the mix to help increase your mpg.

New 06 6speed 2500

Thought I'd pass along the mileage on my truck. Its got 1086 miles on it and my last tank I ran for 380 miles all in town driving, no towing, and as I said its a stick with a 3.73 rear.

Mileage was 17.52 computed at the same diesel pump with 2 "clicks" also running the air all the time. My 03 Hemi under the same conditions would be hard pressed to get over mid 12's.

Truck has no problems, yet...

Sorry, I guess I should have included the details on the truck.

4x2, 2500, 6 speed G56, 3.73, Quad Cab, NO MODS.

I'm going to go to taller tires as this truck is geared way too low. IMO, it will improve its mileage with a lowering of cruise RPM. Right now at 70 mph its RPM is higher than my 22,000 lbs motorhome with the same motor except Gen II. I believe Dodge only has two gear sets for this Diff. 4.10 and 3.73 I've been told there are no other ring and pinions available. So 35" tires will be the only "reasonable" option. Should drop cruise around 350 RPM. Speedo will be a problem though.

10-4 on that. I could only find the winter formula during the re-label, and I thought I was going to Cal so I wanted to be sure I had something to add to the ulsd, thats why I got the white bottle. Do you use the PS in every tank, and how much (16 or 32oz)?
What is MMO and where do I get it?

Thanks.........Dale

I gotta put on my Rant suit here for a second.

Guys, havent you read enough posts about the inaccuracies of the overhead computer? Is it just me that sees these posts? The new reflash that by all appearances, makes them even more innaccurate. When you post that your fuel mileage stinks, or that your mileage is wonderful, and you quote what your Overhead reads, you tend to lose credibility, because with any research, you'll learn that the overhead is almost always off, most of the time by at least 1MPG. I think its been shown that the overhead in any given vehicle can be at best used to check relative mileage as long as you havent changed any of the parameters. With my 03, my calculated mileage ran 15.6. My overhead ranged from 16.5 to 17.3. It only takes a few seconds to calculate it.
Rant suit off (sorry guys, its just something that I've seen go on for 6 years)

Also, I believe that every truck has a distinct "normal" that it will run, ie., when my needle hits the quarter - alf - or 3/4 mark, I have a pretty good idea what kind of miles I should be at. My 03 at 1/2 tank was almost always right at 200-225 miles. Typically when the light came on, I was at about 380-400 miles. So far the 06 looks to be close to the same, except my current tank has me at 330 miles and sitting right at 1/2 tank. Some might be jumping for joy at the mileage, but I tend to think that it may be more of an anomally in my tank guage reading......time will tell.

Rant suit off........sorry

Well here are my results from the reflash (TSB 18-041-05):

My mileage (I think I missed one fill up) is like this:

Date, Mileage, Gallons, MPG, Overhead
04/09/06, 445.2, 27.6, 16.1
04/14/06, 264.3, 18.8, 14.1
04/23/06, 408.1, 21.8, 18.7
04/23/06, 386.6, 23.7,16.3
05/02/06, 380.8, 26.9, 14.2
05/10/06, 417.9, 26.9,15.5
05/16/06, 279.8, 20.2, 13.9
05/27/06, 398.1, 26.9, 14.8
06/03/06, 387.1, 26.4, 14.7, 14
06/10/06, 456.8, 28.3, 16.1, 15.2
06/19/06, 458.2, 27.7, 16.5, 14.9
06/23/06, 109.9, 8.1, 13.6, 13.8 - Reflash 06-22-06
07/01/06, 497.3, 30.7, 16.2, 17.4
07/07/06, 373.5, 21.1, 17.7, 16.9 - add MMO&PS
07/15/06, 469.1, 27.6, 17.0, 16.9

Take it for what it is worth. I have seen an improvement in mileage. My driving is 50/50 between city and highway. Actually, I would say it is more city, but let's say it is 50/50. Most of the time my truck is empty, but there are a couple of days in there that the bed was full. I also have a tool box that in the bed that is full all the time.

This mileage is better than my previous Chevy 1500 with a 350, so with the reflash I am happy. On completely highway trips it is not uncommon to see the overhead above 20mph.

For me the reflash (TSB 18-041-05) made a difference. You can see what it was before and what it is now. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Donut, I see that you are actually getting better MPG than your overhead reads (except for the two at the reflash time period). Does it seem to anyone else that generally speaking, the overheads normally read higher?

I checked mine against the overhead on a 1300 mile RT this weekend. I had about 150 miles of city, the rest HW. Towing my 2500# (total) race boat the entire time, with about 1250# in the bed on the way back for 550 miles. The overhead says 17.5, hand calc at 14.8. It's got 2400 miles on it now. Ran close to 80 on the road.

06 LWB 2500 QC.

Since the reflash, the overhead has been closer. Before, it was way low. Before the reflash it was 1.5 to 2.5 mpg low. I didn't start tracking its reading until just before the reflash, so that is just my memory.
