I had mine reflashed, it did help, get 17 MPG US now, 14 before. This after about 6000 km.

Not even broken in yet?

My truck has almost 20k on it now and the mileage has not changed but maybe by about a half a gallon per mile and that is not consistant. I think that some trucks just get crummy mileage and not much will change that.

I think that it is kind of a cop out stating that the mileage suks because the engine is not ran in until it has at least 20k or more on it. I have yet to read that some one has posted that as soon as he hit 20k+ his mileage started going up, and stayed going up. I usually see the posts that state "I have reached 20/30K miles and my gen3's mileage still bites".

I have come to the conclusion that most of these trucks will just make crummy mileage records no matter what you do. I am not happy with this also but I will live with it.

JINX ON...

I just hope my new 06 is one of the lucky ones with the good mileage, as compared to my 04.5.

JINK OFF.

Well I will just say this. My trucks mileage seems to be improving still. I just turned over 43,000 miles today on a 500 mile trip. Running 75 mph I hand calculated 17 even. Overhead said 17.6.

I think it takes a good long while to break these engines in unless you pull heavy with them all the time.

Would I like to have 20mpg. Sure. But my truck weighs over 8000lbs so I think 17 isn't bad for running 75mph. Im sure it would be closer to 19 or 20 if I slowed down to 65.

A few months ago mine was averaging 14-15 mpg. Now 17. Give it time to break in is my 2 cents.

What "reflash" are you taking about?
Can the Dodge dealer do this for free?

You can search these threads all day long, and find out people were having issues with their mileage. If your truck was made before Nov. 6th 2005 (check the sticker on your drivers door) then call the dealer, tell them your getting crummy mileage, white smoke, hard starting....Tell them all your buddies got a computer Flash that helped alot of these issues. I can tell you the most popular TSB #18-003-06. But when I went for a flash the dealer gave me a differnt number (no im sorry, i dont have a clue what it is now). The best thing to do is get to your dealer, have them plug it in, and it will give them results of flashes they can do.

I went from 11mpg, to 16.5-17mpg, No joke. With only 2000 miles on the odometer. All hand calculated because the overhead will read kinda high after the flash.

You will not see the same mileage like alot of pre-2003 diesel rams because of changes in emmison restrictions.

They should treat your flash like a Recall, thats what they called mine on the service sheet. I went right to my salesman and told him the issue, he called the service guys, and they took me in right then. After an hour I was out the door.

I havent read a post yet from someone who had a problem getting a flash.

i don't see why they are killing the mileage by increasing the emissions controls on the new diesels and adding catilitic converters. i have a 2001 with a chip and no cat. and the county i live in requires smog checks and the max opacity % allowed is 40.0 and mine tests at 4.2 which is hardly anything

Well, guys, you also have to realize that your 2006's are pushing 300+ horsepower. The better mileage pre-2003's, like my 2001.5 only made 245 horsepower max without any mods. With great horsepower comes great fuel consumption So, you can't have your cake and eat it too. I'd LOVE to have the 300 ponies at my every beck and call but I'm quite happy with the 235 stock horses and the 20+ mpg I get on the highway. Some later model trucks are seeing better mileage after driving X-number of miles but overall I think there is a limit to how fuel efficient a 300+ horsepower engine can be.

I know this is way too early to get an accurate indication, but I picked my truck up a couple days ago and the read out I get is mid 15s around town and that is with a 4.10 rear end. I reset it once to see if it would change but it stayed in that area. That is with just 100 miles on it.

I have only had mine for about a month now, all stock except for the 33" Mickeys, hand calculated at 17.3 with the air running and at a 75mph clip.

It was built in March of 06 though.....................

Maybe they noticed the fuel problem ealier and have fixed the issues on the later models.......
