06 engine tick

I have an 06 3500-stock with a tick that sounds like its on the driver side. it speeds up with engine rpm, does it whether you are moving or not. pretty annoying. it seems like now with cooler weather the truck sputters a bit when starting and noticed a bit of blue smoke. didnt do this during the cooler days of march when i bought it. also have had the engine light come on a couple of times but went off after a few hours. had it at the dealer for jake brake install and told them all about it but they blew me off. dont deal with alley's dodge in kingsport tn. any suggestions. i know i cant be the only one with this ticking. sounds to me like the valves need to be adjusted?
only have 12000miles and it has been doing it since day one but now louder.
thanks

I have that same tick, valve adj. did'nt help that but the motor was a little smoother,My tic appeared about 12-15k now has 50k nothing ever comes of it, but once the truck warms up its gets less noisy.at start up sounds almost like a exaust leak but its not.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO GET RID OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 06 also does it, sounds like it comes from the front of the motor.

My '06 has about 15,000 miles, but I haven't heard a tick. I do have an annoying vibration at idle, more so than any other diesel I have had. It is bad in drive, stopped. The dealer blew me off on that one, too.

My 06 "ticks" also. It almost sounds like lifter tick...but I'll have the dealer listen to it when it goes in for A/C repairs

My 06 has some kind of noise in it also. Mine almost sounds like a rod knockin. The one thing that I have found is with these new 3rd gens being much quieter than the old ones. makes some of those noises to be hurd that you would never here with the old loud ones. Now back to the engine noise, everyone on here say's drive um like you stold um. That's what I do. That's what warranty is for if it brakes.

MY 06 just turned 6000 miles and no tick. (atleast I haven't noticed but will listen today!!) If it does have a tick and the *********** says it is normal, just get it in writing from them incase something happens later.

Mine seems to sound a little different every day. But I don't care 'cause it runs the same - like a champ - no matter how it sounds.

One of the reasons that we are getting these weird little noises just mite be the quallity of the diesel fuel these day's. I don't worry to much about these things untill it make's the old girl run bad. Then you can bet the dealer get's an chance for a warranty clame. I do have diff. noise in my 06 also. But the dang thing just runs and pulls like a freight trane. That's one thing that I learned along time ago. Don't try and fix something that isn't broke.
