05 truck

Well I finally got to bring her home today. 05 1 ton, crew cab, long box, auto trans, 4 inch exhuast, cold air intake box. Very happy with my first diesel pickup. Performance and really good mileage blow my 07 silverado I traded in on it, out of the water pretty much. It did have 166000 km on it though which seems a little high but I dont put on that many miles anyways, so I want to drive this truck for along time and just fix whatever starts to wear down, front end brakes wise.

Anyways I knew I was going to need front suspension/steering parts becuase when I took this truck for a test drive it felt like it needed an alignment. Mechanic checked everything over, next couple weeks the tie rod ends and a couple other bushing will be replaced. They seem to be the cause of problems for the slight steering issues. Alls good though, I expected this sort of stuff before I bought it.

My only question though, is I've found when I'm driving over pretty bumping roads or a big bump, theres a good clunk in the rear somewhere. I checked the spare tire to make sure it wasnt loose as thats what I sounded like to me. But it has also had the same noise when I turn a sharp corner onto the highway at the bottom of a hill it it sortof bumps onto the highway. Something rear suspension maybe? the Clunk when I'm turning onto the highway worries me abit though the rear end doesnt hop but it almost feels like a locker or something making the wheels skip around the corner. But its only happened at the same spot where I turn onto the highway and it bumps a bit. Any other turn it hasnt made the noise.

Congrats on the new truck !

About your clunk, mine has a clunk also when going over bumps. It is my drop hitch, it moves around in the receiver a little.

Are talking about driveline clunk or when you hit a bump and truck goes up/down? For up/down One thing you can check is the shock mounting bolts. I had one that was just a little loose and would do the same thing. Get under the truck and just see if you can tighten any of the shock bolts. Another thing would be to check the exhaust to see if it may be hitting anywhere..

Hey man. Good to see you over here aswell. Yep, my brother had a 95 for along time and it treated him real well. And I've always wanted one since, and the oppurtunity came about, gardners were real good with my trade in value so I was very happy to do the trade.

Thanks guys for the tips, I'll check that stuff today, I did shake the exhaust around but it didnt really sound like the noise it was making. Sounds like either a spring, or shock noise or many something in the driveline.

Every noise, clunk, squeek or growl i,ve ever heard was always the rear u-joint. Put in greasables if they go bad.
