Re:04 ctd
I was told by the local DC dealer here that Cummins is adapting the HEUI injectors that the Navistar engines are using. These will be supplied by F*rd, as they almost own 93.56% of Cummin(g)s.(trading under CMCBS on the NYSE) A six speed 68RE is an option, as well as a 9 spd Fuller trans. No sheetmetal changes, but leather will be standard equipment, unless you get a leather delete option 66A. Stacks will be a factory option. Fuel mileage has been increased nearly 50% due to the crisis in the middle east. Engine noise has been returned, as the '03 engines were too quiet. Dual variable turbo is also an option. Got all this right from my salesman.

Dam, I am ashamed to be in the same profession as some of these "Dealers". Where do they come up with this crap? I mean, what dealer would honestely think DC would spend all this money on the 48re to get it to production, only to replace it a year later with a six speed auto?

I agree it's unlikely but stranger things have happened. Maybe DC found a Mercedez unit that works well and will offer it as a higher dollar option?
Look at all the money Ford / Navistar put into the new 6.0 and now I hear they are going to can the injector / fuel system and go to a HPCR system like GM and Dodge. I got this info from someone who claims to have a friend that is actually testing the new system for them. I guess for now that makes it just a rumor, well see ...

Well, anything is possible, but, as I said earlier. DC would not spend the piles and piles of cash to build the 48re only to "find" a MB tranny to replace it with a year latter. They wouldn't have to "find" anything. The people know what trannys their company has to offer.

Re:04 ctd
Well, he is a person who posted on a mailing list I belong to (Dodge Ram Trucks, DiRT) not a close personal friend. He claims his friend even went to a local dealership to check out the new PSD 6.0's in oem configuration, he was stunned to see they were completely different than the ones he was testing, he thought he had been testing the new standard new 6.0 engines. After some digging at his contact with IH he was told the engines he was testing were set to replace the current 6.0 (mainly just the new HPCR fuel delivery and new injectors). He seemed to indicate this was due very soon (2004 model year) but it's probably more realasticly 2005 MY. That would mean the current version would have been used for only 2 years before it was dumped. Seems that Ford would be admitting their current design is flawed.
