My friend's 04.5 starts out in third gear. He took it to a trans shop and they said he needed a new Certified Transmission Road Ripper 3000 (or something like that).

I pushed him towards Goerend, not that I know Dave, but I have read how much most of y'all like his work.

Thing is, he just paid a local guy $4,000 to fix his trans last year. Now he's down again. He pulls pretty good loads, about 20,000 pounds plus the truck.

Any comments on Certified Transmissions?

 

It sounds like it's in limp mode. Check and clear any codes, clear them even if their not there, see if it returns to normal.

 

Does it downshift manually? Thats the first thing to check.

If yes, the usual problem is gov transducer and/or solenoid. Replace those first before worrying too much about rebuild.

 

Yeap, try to shift through the gears manually. First, then second, etc. If it goes through the gears manually fine, then it is the Govoner transducer and solenoid as was stated. Stay away from the road ripper....LOL Just a certified piece of junk.... Go Goerends if a rebuild is needed.

 

Well, as much as I tried, he sent his truck to get a Road Ripper or whatever it is.

The truck would not shift manually, and supposedly had no codes. The shop said a bunch of stuff is burned and shot and broken inside although the drain plug has normal debris....
