04.5 6spd. high idle
04.5 6spd. high idle
Having one heck of a time getting the cruz control operated high idle enabled. I have read every post about this function. I bought the ecm pin from Cummins and grounded pin #22 on plug b of the ecm, copied the tsb 18-004-04 from Genos Garage along w/some notes. I have tried to have this done in the past and the dealer simply said that they had no idea what I was talking about the first time, second time I had the tsb # written down, they plugged the DRB into ecm, but simply said they couldn't get it to work. At that point I grounded pin 22 on plug b of ecm hoping that it would work, but, it didn't. So, went back to dealer w/complete instructions for tsb 18-004-04 and some notes. Well, I got nowwhere w/them. One service writer said that it probably didn't work because of emissions, another said that it might void warrenty, the tech said that the drb didn't give him the option to enable high idle (before pin 22 was grounded), and the service writers boss said that he would get back to me. RIGHT!. Tomorrow I have appt. w/dealer who is aware of this for automatics, can you guys give me any tips to get this done? One problem I had w/other dealer was that the engine serial # cutoff for the tsb predates my engine serial # so they said that it doesn't apply to my truck. After I grounded pin 22, I tried to get them to simply plug back into the computer and enable it but they wouldn't. I really need as much info as I can get for appointment tomorrow.
From what I've read and heard, there is NO high idle capability for the 6 spd trucks - automatic trannies only. I've looked around for aftermarket ones, but haven't found anything. Soooooo......
For high idle on a manual tranny, go to Home Depot or look around in your garage for a 2x4, and cut to the appropriate length to wedge it between the go pedal and the seat. Viola - a custom made high-idle enabler.

I believe you have to have the correct update to the ECU to see the high idle feature. The second thing you will need is a dealer with the correct version of the DRB tool AND the ability to find the high idle feature in the feature set. Not sure what the first one is and the second condition is a real trick. You are not alone.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I have tried everything. The ECM just doesn't give option for enable high idle. The next steps for me is to buy the kit . from what I have heard the kit from Chrysler is about $300 and the one from Cummins is $80. Both are the same. The DRB I used was update the day I tried to enable with the #22 pin grounded on the "B" connector at the ECM. My trucks ECM also has the latest update. I have just about given up except for spending the money and buying the part. The enable high idle should be under Engine, Misc. then enable high idle. Just it is not there. Good luck. By the way my truck is an early '04 305/555.

Lowboy 18011 or Leadfoot, do you have the part number for the ecm pin. I wasn't aware you could get it from Cummins. I can't get it from the local dealer. I purchased the micro switch from Cummins for 30 bucks and have been looking for a wrecked truck to get the harness.
