I just rebuilt the engine in an 03' 2500, 2wd, auto, 130,000 mi. I also changed trans fluid and filter. The engine is in and runs good. I went to test drive it and when in drive, 2, or 1 it is stuck in 3rd gear. It starts in 3rd gear, the overdrive off button has no effect, the light doesn't even come on. Reverse works good. Also the cruise control does not work, the indicator does not even come on. Also the gear indicator only shows a circle around P or N. In reverse or drive it does not come on. Is it possible that these are all connected? Maybe a ground wire or power wire I missed somewhere? Or do you think there i internal issues. This truck was bought with a blown engne so I never drove it before. When I changed the fluid it looked good. Not burnt or black at all. Any ideas? There was a softball sized hole blown in the side of the block so hard to tell what the truck has been through. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

 

Not sure if your 03' is like my 06' but my truck did the same thing a week or go when I rebuilt my transmission. Mine was stuck in limp mode. I disconnected the ground on the batteries and held the key in the on position for 30-60 seconds, reconnect the batteries and it should be good to go. At least that was the problem with mine, Good luck.

 

I never thought about limp mode. I never had to worry about that with my old truck. Would that throw an engine light or anything?

 

I think it will, my edge cleared my stuff automatically. I didn't really pay attention to that. Just thought it was something quick you could try. Maybe some of these technical experts will give their .02. Did you flip your key to see if their were any codes?? It just something really quick an deasy to figure out that came to mind.
