The Fuel Control Actuator (FCA) is an electronically controlled solenoid valve. The ECM controls the amount of fuel
that enters the high-pressure pumping chambers by opening and closing the FCA based on a demanded fuel pressure.
When the FCA is opened, the maximum amount of fuel is being supplied to the fuel injection pump. Any fuel
that does not enter the injection pump is directed to the cascade overflow valve. The cascade overflow valve regulates
how much excess fuel is used for lubrication of the pump and how much is returned to the fuel tank through
the drain manifold.
An audible click from the FCA is normal when operating the key from the ON to the OFF position.

Is there anything I need to take into consideration when replacing the FCA? I know the torx bolts are kind of tricky to get to and can strip easily, anything else I need to worry about? Will I be letting air into the system when I take the old FCA out?

The CR fuel system is self priming.

Strike the head and sides of the bolts before you try to loosen them.

My guess, 99% it's a lift pump. I went through this on vacation. I felt a strange bump in the power a few weeks before, then it kinda stuttered off idle once, then other wierd stuff. Slowly it got worse until it almost stranded me. I was lucky!!!!

Just to be clear on how it works, the lift pump sucks fuel out of the tank and sends it to the CP3 which is the high pressure pump. The output of the lift pump is 5 psi or so, the CP3 can make in excess of 20k psi.

Try this:

Find the lift pump on the back of the cannister fuel filter. It's on the cab side of the cylinder. Have a friend crank the engine, but only a bit so it doesn't start. Does the pump make a buzz-hiss sound, can you feel it vibrate? If not, there's your problem. the vaccuum pump makes some noise too, so don't get confused between the two.

If it is the lift pump, a new one is $250 or so, from what I remember. You can do that, or choose to go the tank mounted ourte, or a frame mounted one, etc etc. I chose a cheap sotck replacement, mostly because i was out of town doing the replacment, and the like for like is really easy.

I looked into the MAP sensor and Air cleaner sensor (both multifuntion sensors) but after all, they were fine.

Hope that helps,

Chay

Disconnect your Edge and run your truck for a week and see if it is still having problems.
Sometimes the connectors at the Rail pressure connector get worn or loose and cause issues with the truck stalling.

if i owned your truck I'd take it to Cummins in Grand Rapids and have Stu look at it, may be cheaper in the long run.
