Throttle position sensor??

I have a 97 the engine keeps dying on me, was told that it was the throttle control switch. Is that right, plus my overdrive will not work half the time, could this be the problem?

Sounds to me like you just need to adjust your idle. Do a search and im sure you can find out how to do it. I think it takes a 10mm wrench.
