03 races away from dead stop.
I have a 03 Dodge ram 2500 6 speed with a pacbrake. The truck has lots of power, but starting from a dead stop by engaging the clucth with slight addition to the accelerator pedal with no advancement, the truck RPMs will redline, unless I let off the accelerator. When this happens then the truck dies on it face.As I continue to shift through the rest of gears the RPMs seem to hang 3 to 5 seconds before I can shift to the next gear. This makes for a very unsmooth transfer between gears, especialy when downshifting on a uphill grade with the fithwheel in tow. I have had several visits to the dealer and they can't figure it out. One problem is it's not consistent,It dosent do it all the time.
On cold warm up the shifting is smoother, there seems to be less RPM hang time shifting between gears. And untill the engine has reached 200 degrees then this runaway mode occurres from a dead stop. The dealer has changed the accelerator sensor with no improvement. The dealer suggested I change my driving habits. I have driven many trucks in my life, but this is my first problem truck, maybe next time I'll wait and not buy an first year production vehicle.

I could only guess that your throttle position sensor signal must be bad.
Possible the sensor itself (just barely off idle has an intermittant spot) or a wiring problem. Just a wild guess. If you cold hook a DMM to the ouput line and monitor it during a few takeoffs it would be obvious if the signal is corrupt.

my '03 has never had that problem, but from what you are saying it sounds like maybe it is not defueling between gears as it should, or the pedel is hanging up, kinda like on the older fords where if you had a heavy trailer you had to put it to the floor before moving, but when you let off it is like someone forgot to tell the truck to ease up
Just a thought, there are alot of wise folks in here and surely someone has an idea, by the way, welcome
