ive got 2 03 trucks built 12-02 and 1-03 and i was told if the 8th digit in the vin is a 6 which both of my trucks do, then its a 47re but i looked at the wires going into the tranny by the shifter linkage and there are 5 wires. i thought the 47 only had 3?

 

You have a 47re. The wiring was the same on the last of the 47re.

 

What engine do you have? Dont all the HO 305/555 auto trucks have 48re?

 

so its a 47 but cannot be swaped with a 47 out of a 2nd gen say an o1?

 

If you have a 2003 HO 305 hp w/550 torque you will have a 48RE. That engine came out in 2002 but you could only get it with a manual trans. They came out with the 48RE in 2003 to handle the high torque.

 

It was actually 2003.5 when the 305 and the 48RE came out together.

With the build dates you are saying, it is probabbly the 47RE.
Another way to tell is look on the side of the intake manifold. (I believe the sticker is on the drivers side) It will tell you the horsepower rating. If it doesn't say 305, then it is the 47RE.

 

Check the code in your glovebox.......there should be 2 trans codes...what are they?

(I have an 03 build date 03/03 vin has a 6 (SO motor), but i actually have the 48RE. It was an option when i bought the truck....best way to know for sure, a quick email to chrysler and a couple days wait - they'll email you a build sheet)

 

dave goerand says its a 48 case but still has 47 internals, i cant put a built 01 47re in my truck.

My 03so has a 47re, does yours have the cable activated kick down for the transmission? Mine does.

 

they all have the cable until 05

 

My '03 auto was ordered in March '03 and was delivered in early June '03. This may be considered the second half of the '03 model year. It definitely has a 48RE. Any good trans shop can tell you what it is equipped with or your Dodge dealer shop.
