'03 for an '06
'03 for an '06
I had my Father up for the weekend and we went to the lake with the boat. Usually it's me the wife and the kids, but the wife ended up riding in the back. It's a tough crunch and she was quite uncomfortable. I'm looking into a new MegaCab and I'm curious about the problems that current owners are facing. Can you guys offer any input? I am somewhat leery due to the current problems like AC not blowing and diesel in the oil. Let me know. Thanks.
My biggest problem with the Mega Cab is that now my wife brings even more stuff. If you buy it, they will fill it.
Seriously, it is great being able to put three adults into the back. There is room behind the rear seats for storage and the seats fold down if you need them to go flat. The full size doors are a little of a pain in parking lots because they open to 90* and you have to watch swinging them into the guy parked next to you as the kids jump out.

Both in hwy driving and towing my travel trailer, I lost mpg going from my '03 to the '06. The '03 would routinely get 21 hwy and 15-16 pulling the trailer. This '06 is topping out in the high 14's hwy and 9-10mpg towing. Goes to the shop tomorrow for the same a/c probs I was having with the '03 plus my overhead thinks that here in Texas it is -40 degrees farenheit most of the time.

Ha my overhead has done the -40 thing. But only like twice and not for very long. And my 06 routinely gets about 550 miles on 30-31 gallons which comes out to around 17-18 MPG and thats with 35's. Somethings up with your truck.
The only problem with my MegaCab is with the lower back bolster on the drivers seat. It doesn't hold its position for very long. Other than that mine has been trouble free for the first 5,500 miles.
3 of my buddies have 06 models. And they are all 4x4's, one of them a dually. Th most any of them have gotten was 10.5 mpg pulling a 24' travel trailer(about 5000 lbs) and about 14 to 15.5 empty at 68 mph. One of them has close to 50,000 miles now and his mpg went up a little but nothing like the older ones. If anyone is getting better than that thats good news to hear.

Thanks for all the answers guys. I guess I'll hang on to my '03 for now and maybe wait for the '07's to come in so I can see if the MPG's improve and if they get any of the other flaws worked out.
