This is a post I saw on another site and surprised no one here has heard of this, kind of made me wonder if there really is anything to it. Just passing it onto y'all. Here it is:

Mine had the deadly defect of not stopping for red lights until I started using the brake peddle. I suspect the same method might prevent movement when moving the shift lever to park. I always set my parking brake before putting the lever in park anyhow to prevent "hanging" on the pawl gear.

If you read all 20 documents carefully you find NHTSA is also interested in neutral/start switch issues and this includes the failure to shift out of park when the brake pedal is pressed. Some trucks apparently are giving "false Park" conditions to vehicle electronics. Owners who experience either of the issues listed are asked to open a complaint with NHTSA. You can do that from their web page.

My truck does this, when it is placed in park it seams that there is a spot that it likes to go into that is between Reverse and Park the park light indicator on the dash comes on. It will roll if the parking brake is not set and can be bumped into reverse without the depression of the brake.
Just had my flash for mileage/trip computer and they took a look at the "not going into park" issue as well. Invoice says, "Plastic sleeve not secured to linkage, adjusted linkage, pushed plastic sleeve securely into place." Knida worked, maybe I'm just pushing harder to get it into park.
