Question This Weird: Fuel Line Confusion

My 2005 3500 auto has always run great but during a trip from Dallas to K.C. it suddenly hesitated one time when I sped up after the engine had been off. It then went back to running great until I stop and kill the engine. When I get back in and restart it works fine until I accelerate then the pedal goes down and the truck slows for about 3 seconds, I have counted it. THAT IS WEIRD! And it does it every time after I have turned the engine off. Then it runs great with good mileage and power. Would you please give me some ideas about how to fix this? I have been faithful in all maintenance.

All help appreciated Shadrack

Welcome to DTR!

Sounds like the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) These trucks don't have a throttle cable so they rely on a sensor to tell the ECM how far and how fast the throttle is pressed.

Did you check for codes with the key on-off sequence? Filters changed lately? Checked for water in the fuel bowl?

This Weird Fuel Prob. SHADRACK

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP! We will try the "app reset" 1st. Part of the confusion with this situation is that we have no trouble light and no code??? On the computer it looks like nothing is wrong. The mechanic thought I was a little until he drove it and we got the 3 second die. Then guess what he said? "THAT IS WEIRD". Now that is insight!

I don't want to do trial and error, although we may be reduced to that. I'll keep you posted

There is no such thing as an operator performed APPS reset on a 3rd gen. The APPS voltages are preset and intialized from tables everytime the engine is started. In addition, when the APPS was moved to the inside of the cab the bulk of the remaining failure issues disappeared. Bad connections can cause issues but if the APPS every fails bad enough to cause the issue you are describing there would be codes pointing to it.

A better test is disconnect all the batteries and tie the negative cables together for about 30 minutes. This will discharge any capacitors and clear volatile memory forcing intialization of the sub systems. Sometimes crap gets stored in volatile memory and it appears as throttle issues.

Did you monitor rail pressure as this happens? Put the remote scanner on the truck while driving and watch demanded rail pressure versus actual to see if there are any discrepencies. Really sounds like rail pressure is not matching what is demanded.

Again, check for water in the water trap, change the fuel filter, and make sure the air filer is clean and not collapsed. Until those are done its all just guessing.
