Done deal! Well, pretty much.
Am FINALLY picking up my 2001 2500 CTD longbed 4WD Friday! Need to drive to Scotia NY but that's not a bad drive. Am trading my Expedition. Truck has 72k miles and had what I consider an excellent price - advertized on Autotrader.com for just under $20k. It's a one owner, traded at the local (Scotia NY) Dodge dealer. Clean carfax.
Phew....

You will love the truck. You may consider driving it for a few months before doing anything to it. I have found that if I give a new vehicle a little time to get accustomed to me before I start tinkering with it, I have much less trouble over the short term.
I am definitely not planning on anything right off. My REAL hope is that, by buying from a Dodge dealer, that I it will be in great shape when I pick it up. Thay is going under the assumption that a Dodge dealer will know better things to look for in its inspection of components before they put it on the lot as opposed to Joe's Truck and Hot Dog Center who might be less able or inclined.
I have to say that the price was what really drew me to this deal. Having spent the last 2 months scouring the net for them, I've seen just about everything under the sun - from 2001's with 45k on them for $22k in Michigan to 2001's with 160k on them that go for almost $20k on eBay to 2002's with 99k on them with a buy-it-now price of $23,000. I took a little less in trade for mine than I was hoping for but the flip side of it is that I was EXPECTING to start with a truck that had a price of $21-$23k. And in fact, I was starting to adjust my mindset to where I was looking at trucks in the $23-$25k range. So finding something at just under $20k was a real plus. The fact that it's a local trade at a Dodge dealer is also a plus. The reason I say that is, again assuming here, if a dealership is putting a truck on the lot that it took in trade, it expects to sell it locally which means there atleast an even-odds chance that it will come back for service or, come back to haunt them.

Congratulations. Now, always talk nice to her, give her a kiss and a hug when you park her for the night. Treat her with respect and she will love you until you both get too old to drive.

God love that ol' CTD. Had to respond to this thread...... 2 1/2 years and still get that smile .... only trick I haven't figured out yet is ... how to slip into the yard at 3 a.m. without waking up the "Warden".

Yeah, there's definitely no sneaking up on anything w/ this thing!

No sneaking in with a CTD. Make as much noise as you can! Stomp in the house.
Jump in bed, give the warden a love tap, and say somthing clever, like "lets go." warden will pobly prtend to be asleep, or HEHEHE. Works well
