Wippers just dont wipe the windshield!!!

Does anyone else have this problem? I'll be going down the freeway at around 70 or so in the rain and the wippers just aren't cutting it! They seem to not be making contact with the windsheild because of the wind blowing over them. This is very frustrating and has put me in some dangerous situations if its raining hard enough. Especialy going by big rigs. And if there is a cross wind slowing wont help. Has anyone done anything to fix this? Or is there no fix? Thanks for any help.

Here in Las Vegas we get so little rain the wipers fall apart before we get to use them! Try replacing the stock wiper blades with the type that have an aerodynamic wing on them. These should keep those babies glued to your windshield!

Mine do it sometimes. I use rain-x to supplement the wipers. Most light showers you don't even need to turn on the wipers with this stuff. Bugs don't stick as bad. I use it regularly. It seems to work better as you apply applications over time. Must build up a layer with each application. Highly recommend it.

Sounds to me like the springs in the wiper arms are week. Maybe try a new set of wiper arms or just replacing the springs in them.

My wipers seem to work really well, just a few weeks ago we had a really hard rain, people where pulling off the side of the road but I just kept driving. I would also recomend using RainX.

God Luck
DB

I few years ago I found these extra springs you add you to your wipers at a local walmart.. they had to contact points - one near the base of the wiper and another up the blade a few inches.. They certainly helped keep the blades pressed to the windshield, the blade really 'snapped' back with them attached.. You may try a auto parts store for those..

And as already mentioned.. rain-x is wonderful..

I have found that the pivot points get stuck from non use,so new may be in order ,or lube up pivot points i have done that in the past. Buy the Window washer fluid with rain-x in it it is easier than applying the old way. rain-x is a wonderful product

Re:Wippers just dont wipe the windshield!!!

There are a couple of fixes...1) some blades have what looks like a air foil this helps hold the blade to the windshield...2) most truck stores sell a helper spring that attach to the wiper arm...3) wiper arm springs can become weak replace the wiper arm with a new one...4) theres a dual wiper blade that works petty good (I have these)...5)Rain-X...6) new blades...7) clean your windshield with alcohol this will get and film or grid off

justmy.02cents

Re:Wippers just dont wipe the windshield!!!

Hey thanks for the replys. I have replaced the wipers recently. I cant stand old streaky blades! The wipers do work great until I am going down the freeway or if there is a cross wind. I never used rain X and never talked to anyone that liked it untill now. I will look for the blade holders with this air foil you mentioned but I dont understand the springs some of you are talking about. Is this a replacement or an additional spring?

I tried the rainX and did not like it at all. I stayed on my truck for a year before It finally came off. I tried everything to get it off. If my wipers worked better then I would use it. I'm going to try this new rainx wax. I hope it works as well and the window rainx
DM01

Re:Wippers just dont wipe the windshield!!!

Katoom, this will be an additional spring that goes over/around your existing wiper arm(if it's the same kind that I'm thinking about) It's for putting more 'down' pressure on your wiper arms/blades for better wiping. It will be visible around the arm whereas the others are concealed inside the arm. We have used these on road trucks occasionally with good results.

I use the rain-x. I dont even use the wipers unless its a really really heavy down pour. Then my wipers work great any any speed. I use the bosch micro edge excell? something like that. They work, at least for me. my $0.02

What is a "spoiler blade"? I have never heard of this. Who makes one and what does it look like?

Katoom : Big oopsie ! ;D

I meant the ones with the little airfoil on them. Over here they are marketed as Bosch Spoiler Wiper blades and are available in several different lenghts. I usually buy 2 packets, one of each length instead of a special set for a certain car. A bit cheaper and very handy to have some reserve.

Do you have a bug deflector ? They effect the performance of your wipers. Rain-X !!!!!!!!!
