where to find rotors?
where to find rotors?
I need rotors for my 97 3500 2x4 dually GVW 10500. I just returned from Pep Mutts to find they want 201.00 each. How do I know if my truck is 2 wheel anti lock or 4 wheel anti lock?
There must be a more reasonable priced rotor out there.
Thanks CB

Re:where to find rotors?
LOOK AT THE TAG ON THE UNDER SIDE OF YOUR HOOD. IT SHOULD SAY IF 4WHEEL ABS, DIFF. RATIO, ETC. I'LL TELL YOU RIGHT NOW, THAT PRICE IS NOT THAT BAD IF 4WHL ABS. IT IS ALOT CHEAPER IF NOT 4WHEEL ABS. I BELIEVE THE PRICES I GOT WERE AROUND THAT,MAYBE 20 BUCKS CHEAPER. I DECIDED NOT TO REPLACE THE ROTOR RIGHT NOW AND JUST PUT NEW PADS ON. I DECIDED THE GROOVES WERE NOT THAT BAD. SHOULD I HAVE DONE THAT??NO!!! I AM JUST NOT PULLING THAT HEAVY RIGHT NOW. I FIGURE I WILL REDO COMPLETE FRONT BRAKES NEXT MONTH. REASON THEY ARE SO HIGH FOR ABS FRONTS IS THE ROTOR AND HUB ARE ONE UNIT AND I THINK THAT THE NON-ABS ARE SEPERATE. I THINK THE PRICE FOR NON ABS ROTORS ARE LIKE 50-60 BUCKS. I JUST HAD TOGET 4WHEEL ABS WHEN I BOUGHT IT. PAYING FOR IT NOW!!
Re:where to find rotors?
Stoneman;
Is that for the rotor and hub assembly or just the rotor?
I know I've got a 2500 and you have a 3500 but I gave $33 and change for mine at NAPA.
If the dealers are that much difference in Louisville you might chech here in Frankfort.
If you don't find a better price pm me and I'll check here.
For a couple hundred you it would be worth the 50 mi. drive.
Good Luck !

Re:where to find rotors?
According to the tag under hood I have a rear wheel only abs setup. I know the front rotors come off separately from spindel. Thats how I found out they are way beyond the service limits. I have tried NAPA & Pepboys with same results. 200 for each rotor. Does this sound right for front rotors on a rear wheel only abs?
Re:where to find rotors?
I'M GONNA JUMP IN HERE ABOUT THE ROTORS. THAT PRICE HE IS SEEING IS FOR THE ROTOR AND HUB. THEY ARE A ONE PIECE UNIT IF ABS UP FRONT. THE DEALERS WANT AROUND $350 FOR THE UNIT. IT IS ALL BECAUSE OF THE ABS. I GUESS IT IS ALL WORTH IT IF YOU NEED IT ONE DAY.
Re:where to find rotors?
IF YOUR ROTORS COME OFF SEPERATELY, YOU ARE IN BUSINESS. PEP BOYS JUST QUOTED YOU THE WRONG STUFF. I DO REMEMBER CHECKING ON THE PRICES IF I COULD HAVE USED JUST THE ROTORS AND LIKE THE OTHER POST SAID, THEY WERE 30-50 BUCKS. WANT TO TRADE TRUCKS!!!!???

stoneman,
I just went through this with my truck, which is a 97' 3500 4x4. The prices you quoted were not bad, but with a quick search I was abile to get very good rotors for less. You didn't say what brand you were pricing at pep boys? I would like to recomend RAYBESTOS, they have very good quallity and offer there SUPER STOPPER line for our trucks. These HUB/ROTORS ( to clear the air, on the 2wd trucks the fronts are made as a unit, the rotor and the hub are the same) are extreme duty, cross drilled and gas sloted, nice looking peice. If you go with them the part # ST76465l, ST76465r, they sell for around 150.00. There are some cheaper brands, but I would highly consider these, they really improve on the braking. The big difference with the 4w abs, is the tone generator mounted on the back of the hub. They will increase the cost by about 40-50 dollars. Well worth it for anyone who has driven a truck with 4 wheel abs brakes, although it was only a 495.00 option in 97', meany people didn't go for it. Go figure, spend 5000. for a cummins, then cheap out on the brakes?
