I change mine every 3rd oil change, about 15k miles.

 

I go by my fuel pressure gauge.
When the highway cruising pressure drops 4 psi I change it.
12 valve, this is a drop from 32 to 28 psi.
Usually go 40-50k miles.
Fuel pressure gauge will pay for itself by just eliminating one needless filter change, every diesel engine should have one.
Going by mileage is nothing but a guessing game. One dirty tank of fuel can clog the filter in ten miles.
I've run into two filters that came with the truck when new, went over 100k and were still fine.
It depends entirely on where you pump your fuel.

Just did mine 9k.

I had blackstone do an oil analysis (6k, last oil change) and they said it was still good...etc,etc,etc...

so i pushed the oil out to 9k and did my fuel filter at the same time...I noticed a flux in the PSI around 8500k about 2-4 psi...so I figure if i can get 9k out of the oil and 9k out of the fuel...I will just change them both at the same time.

good enough for me...

I agree that to try to put a "mileage" on the fuel filter change is just asking for trouble....

with what I said above, I will TRY to go 9k but thats not to say if I get a flux in PSI, at say 2500K the easiest and cheapest thing for me to do is, look at the FF first.

once a year - no FP gage, no mileage concern. Once a year of when I notice she's not running right. Want a FP gage, but not a priority just yet.

And always use a good filter...Fleetguard only for me.

 

I disagree, the cheapest pump protection is a gauge. You could change the filter every 600 and never know it was partially plugged every time.

 

You could be cutting your own throat changing the filter too early.
It's a well proven fact that every filter filters better as it collects particulates till it finally plugs enough to restrict flow.
Gauge is the only way to go.
Way I see it I'd rather have a fuel pressure gauge than a fuel level gauge.

 

I too change it when I see the fuel pressure start to drop. If you don't have a pressure guage, you really ought to get one!

 

I chnage mine every other oil change, about 10-15K miles..... Yea I push the oil changes but in the winter here I let it slide a bit and in the summer when it's friggin hot then I am all over it at 5k miles

 

Having a fp gauge on a VP44 truck is as important as having oil in it. I bet dodge looks back and wonders why it wasn't a part of the factory gauges as it's so critical to maintain adequate psi to the VP.

 

I change mine every oil change 3-5K miles, It's the only filter I have on the truck. I do have I FP guage and I haven't seen it drop Psi before I change but it's easier for me to remember when I change the oil than to try and do it the other way. I also don't rack up miles on the truck so it doesn't me aot through out the year. LOL
