I would have to pass. Probably a lot of short trips and for a little more money you get into a 3rd gen. 18k would be a little closer I think. It is an 8 year old truck after all.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, If I was in the market and had 20,000 laying around I'd probably go for it. I've seen them priced alot higher with way more miles. You cant really go by kelly blue book when your dealing with a cummins, they usually go for more than kbb says because people are willing to pay for them, especially if this one is as good as it sounds, if you dont buy it someone else will jump on it. Just my opinion on it

re whats it worth

I essentially agree with you both . I bought my 01 with 130000 on it for 15
put tires tie rods drag sway bar steering gear box A/c compressor an a steering stabilizer on it . So really its good to go accept for what ever comes up with the trans . An this truck has lived a easy life too as far the drive train goes, guess thats why the auto hasn,t broken yet . I,m sure it can be built
into something I will enjoy driving . So if that cost me 3500 in the future by the time I payed sales tax an changed all the fluids over to synthetic on this 2000 modle I would be right there in the starting of the money that a good used 3rd generation would be . Thanks guys for helping me rationalize this .
Ha! guess my biggest mistake was picking up the trader at the grocery store.

My local dealer has a '05 3500 with a 6 speed and 45k. You can get down to same price of this 2000 or less if you trade in yours, and that's what they are asking with no "haggling" yet, why buy a 5 year older model ?

$ 20k is very high, I would not trust a stop and go few miles truck like that. You will have to replace so many dried up gaskets, hoses, etc. plust update all the usual

You're looking at truck. 17500 miles is nothing. Short trips with few miles hasn't hurt, especially since garage kept. Nothing has really dried up or detoriated. This is a favored truck by so many users. If meets your needs, by all means pay a couple thousand extra and get a great truck.

I'd trade up from mine to that and pay the difference just for the jake and mileage change. Probably has the newer aluminum wheels, redesigned front brakes, etc...I'd say worth it.

I'd offer him $1.03 per mile driven! Kurt
