VIN tag is missing !!!!

I was talking to my insurance agent last week, we were updating the policies. I was reading the plate from behind my windshield when I found out it's missing !!!
The 2 rivet holes are there but no tag. I went to the DMV and had VIN truck inspected and a form issued, taken apart dash but cannot find it anywhere.

My thoughts I replaced windshield 2 months ago and when put new glass installer must have "sliced" tag off without noticing it.

How do I do to get a new tag ? Do I ask the State of MN or do I ask Dodge ?

Wow that sucks. I would try going to the dealer. I don't think the state would issue you one.

Aren't the tags made out of aluminum? How would one slice it off without noticing?

There is more than one VIN # location on each truck, most have three.
The one on the door post will be the same number as the dash and the one on the frame.

If I remember correctly there is also one under the carpet on the passengers side. Near the area of the jack.

Did anyone ever replace the dash for cracking?

If so, that is where your vin tag likely went.

And yeah, it does seem kinda cheesy the vin tag is riveted to nothing more than plastic.

That VIN tag removal might not have been accidental! Contact the police and the glass shop that replaced the windshield to see who actually did the replacement. It could now be on a stolen vehicle somewhere.

I think there's a build plate under the core support somewhere too. I wouldn't even worry about it.

I did. I almost threw mine a way. I put the entire dash in a clear trash back and broke it all up by hand. It was funny looking. Just a hand full of grey corn flakes. I had actually tossed it into a dumpster and for some reason looked back at it and saw my vin tag . I dug it back out, then put it back in place with some foam tape.

Just the way it looks, I wouldn't be surprised if I ever got stopped, a cop might think it was a fake vin tag, but I keep a copy of the receipt where I bought the replacement dash just in case. Don't know if that will fly, but you don't really have alot of options.

I guess I could have re-rivited it back in place, but I didn't catch it in time. If I ever need to pull the dash, which I might do soon because of the ac leak, I'll try to remember to atempt a re-rivet. Or maybe if I ever have the windshield repalced, i'll do it then. I've been worrined that the foam tape will give up the ghost and the plate will slide down into never never land. This reminds me, I need to check on it again.

This is Minnesota, too cold here for dash cracking. VIN tag was there when I bought the truck, definitely not a stolen vehicle since I had it inspected by DMV for VIN, they issued a statement, and I keep a copy in glove compartment.
If you never removed and installed a windshield you don't know what it's involved, that's why I can say the installer ( which is a friend of mine) did it by mistake, and I was there watching too.

I'll try a dealer and see what they say

After 5 CTDs with an average of 180,000each I can tell you I never seen a cracked dash. I added a note some articles ago, it seems to be a southern states issue more than north. I also don't know anybody that had one cracked (up here). I assume the extreme heat in summer is what it weakens the vinyl compound

I didn't mean any offense. If you were there watching, didn't you see it happen?
