Re:Unpleasant Surprise

Outrider you may be right. I just came in from checking her out. Driver side battery is putting out 14+ volts on my VM and passenger side only putting out 11. Put the charger to driver side drawing about 6 amps nice and quite (seems normal). Put the charger to passenger side and almost pulls 10 amps and immeadiatly hear the battery bubbling. Seems like this battery may be bad. Shouldn't those test windows in the battery supposed to show green? Seems like both my bats. are clear...

More wierdness - Started right up when I got home from work after being on the charger about 6 hours. Amp gauge read way low, down about 12 volts. Then after a couple of minutes started moving up and down between 12 and 14+. After about 5-10 minutes it jumped to 14+ and stayed? At first I was worried my Alt. was bad and just hadn't noticed the low gauge but I am pretty good about checking the gauges.

Anyway I am thinking the passenger side bat. has a short...

What do you all think?

Thanks,
Jim

Re:Unpleasant Surprise

If indeed one battery is bad, make sure you replace them BOTH with new batteries.

If you don't, you'll continue to have basically the same problem.
As the not so new one fails, it will severely decrease the life of the new one.
You'll replace the 2nd one, and the 1st one will have a shorter life, then decreasing the life of the new new one.
You'll never have a battery last as long as it's supposed to.

phox

Re:Unpleasant Surprise

As you have stated it was dead after 14 hours of sitting but you started it after 6 hours of charging.Well you charged up the batters enought to start,in cold weather the grid heaters will cycle enough and that changes the charging volts. As to the eye on batterys junk, change both batterys and that should fix your problem.
