Truck Value

Hey guys. Ive got a question for yall. I just recently sold my 04 cummins in an effort to get away from a truck payment since work is hard to come by right now. I was looking at geting a gasser but just cant make myself turn away from a cummins. I found a truck for sale. Its a black quad cab shortbed 2000 Ram 2500 with all the options that were availible in 2000 . Its got the cummins in it. The guy is asking 14, 000 $ for it and its extremely clean to be 13 yrs old. Dash isnt even cracked on it. KBB is helpful somewhat but doesnt factor in the desirability of the truck. Figured you guys could give me a good value on this truck. I appreciate it.

I would never pay more than what KBB says the truck is worth. Why would you? You'll loose money when you sell it.

Prices are stupid on these things.

How many miles and is it 4X4?

I can tell you this, guy comes up and offers me 15K for my Greenie...... I said I bet you would.

As for the desirability, 24 valves aren't there just yet. 14K to me is too high, but then I already have my Cummins, I might just feel differently if I didn't.

Its a 2000 model with automatic trans. and 106, 000 miles. Yeah what I meant with the desirability is it just seems like these trucks are going for crazy $$$ because everybody wants that 5.9 cummins. Ive always just used kbb for everything else I bought but was just wondering what you guys thought

Hmmmm...what to do,what to do....I think for a 24V with only 106K miles selling for $14K,is just a bit to high...yet...I would say around the $9 to $10 range...for now

What I have notice, the first gen are getting into the $10K plus range..Maybe more into a collectors stats....Don't know if that fad will continue..will see..

Next will be the 2nd gen 12V...Then the 24V..

There is one thing....The newer trucks are becoming very complex...If you could get this truck for about $4K less...Then I think it would be a better deal...for now..

Never know what these 5.9 will be worth in the future...

Thanks for the opinions guys. I was thinking along the same lines as yall. A little too expensive but I aint out there to rob anybody blind. People know what theyve got and know what price they want to get for it and I understand that. But I just wanted to get yalls opinion so I would know I wasnt undercutting him wanting to pay less. Thanks again.

Well, if you are serious, and can gather 10G's cash, drive the truck and if you like it, slap the cash on the table and say that's it.

One thing people have to remember, 2000 was 13 years ago, and trying to get a loan on older stuff isn't all that easy, nor cheap.

That leaves cash talks kinds of buyers, and if the guy wants to get rid of it, those buyers aren't to be trifled with.

One thing is for sure, he won't get that in trade.

Thats what sort of troubles me about this guy. If I dont buy it hes cramming it back in the garage and leaving it. He could be blowing smoke but I know this guy and I dont think he is. But hey, I got to do what I got to do. Just hate seeing a truck like that sit in a garage and collect dust.

Well, then I would buy a beater with a heater and drive it while I looked for a nice 12 valve. Believe me, you can find one, it will just take time and diligence.

I paid 6K for Greenie when she had only 138k miles, and was extremely clean.

Right place, right time, they are still out there, just gotta persevere.

106k miles? "EVERY" option available? 4wd? Color Black?
From the way you describe it, I assume this truck is some kinda NICE. (vague desc, but, dash not even cracked leads me toward NICE TRUCK).
If 2wd, nah...not worth 14k.
If 4wd and super nice? Sure it's worth it.
Here's why: Black shows everything, It hides nothing. I have a white truck and a red truck that "appear" to be very nice. If either was black? They'de look like crap and not fool anybody. So, a nice black exterior, is REALLY nice, not "fooler nice".
106k miles? THAT is just flat out difficult to find at any price.
Every option? Very rare on a 2500 or 3500. (we are talking leather seats, both power, both heated. Infinity sound, CD, alloy wheels, AND, all the usuall stuff.
It may be high at $14k, but, Can you find the same elsewhere, cheaper? Doesn't sound like it to me.....
Just cheaper? Sure, you can buy less of a truck, practically anywhere, for alot less money.
Make money on it? Doubt it. However, over the course of several years? It may cost you less to own it than a cheaper truck at a cheaper price.

2 years ago I sold my original owner 2001 2500 QC LB 4X4 manual, Fuel, EGT and Boost gauges with Reese class 5 rear hitch and DSP 5ver and goose hitch, trailer brake, exhaust brake, PAC air bags and on board air, headache rack and running boards, I admit it was pretty basic but it did have AC. The truck looked like new, no accidents and had 60,000ml with newish Michelin's....$13,500

Sales tactic. He is threatening letting it rot to nudge you on price.....

Don't forget there are probably at least half a million of these trucks out there and usually get sold without posting because guys have already shown interest and made offers on the nicer ones.

There was a beautiful 02 Patriot Blue 4x4 Longbed on the Toyota lot a few weeks ago listed at 18,999. It was gone the next day....

Redlinear. It is a very nice truck. I've been to see it in person and the guy was not lying. Its flawless inside and out. And does have every option on it. He special ordered it and its even got his name on the window sticker. I can tell this guy was real meticulous about taking care of it. I got him talked down to 12, 000. Paying a little more than what its worth is fine with me because I'm not in it to resell it. Lets face it. If I buy this truck. It will never have another owner. Once the whole truck falls apart around the motor ill just make turn it into a sled puller or something. But yes. Very nice truck it is.

Busboy, you've just got me wondering why you got rid of that beast. Sixslug, I'm the same way man, any other time I would say sales tactic too. But considering this guy had it listed on craiglist last novemeber and decided not to sell it. The only reason I found this truck is because I went back 4 months in my email and found his email address to ask him would he consider selling. He put it back in the garage once, he'd probably do it again. Just the way he strikes me.
