Track Bar Issue
Track Bar Issue
Hey guys... I recently replaced my track bar trying to get rid of my death wobble issue. I few days ago, I hit a bump just right and WHAM! the DW returned. I had my friend turn the wheel back and forth with the key on and not running and noticed the axle end (passenger) bushing moving between 3/16" to almost 1/4" back and forth. Is this normal? I would hate to think something like a sleeve for the bushing was supposed to be reused in the new track bar.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
You can get a Lukeslink. $85 or so shipped with the end bushing. I got one, haven't installed it yet. But it's supposed to be good. www.lukeslink.com
you should not have that much play
mine after a ton of headache with death wobble, turned out the bold on the passenger side had ovaled out the hole.
I welded in plate, with the hole resized, been fine since,

Don't Forget To Check Your Steering Stabilizer Also. That Can Cause A Serious Wobble Too. Just Pull One End Loose And See If You Can Feel A Good Amount Of Resistance When You Push It In And Pull It Out. If You Feel Little Or No Resistance, Then It's Time To Replace That Too.
Thanks for the input guys... I needed to tighten the axle side bolt a little, but not too much. The stabilizers look like they leaked and was going to change them. I have two of them, would I need the same part number or are they different? Many mentions in the forums in regard to the stabilizers refer to one in many cases. Does anybody else have two?

I don't think the steering stabilizer will cause - or solve - your DW issue.
I guess my trucks must have plenty of the "good" caster - because I haven't noticed any difference from the factory steering dampener.
However, the sector shaft stabilizer I made works VERY well:

I don't think it is an aftermarket setup. There are no unusual brackets installed and they appear to be stock units. One is attached on passenger side from the frame to the steering and the drivers side is mounted from the steering to the axle. Was this an option during my model year?
