Question Towing question, please help me!

Hi everyone, I have a 1999 Dodge 2500 5.9L 24v STOCK POWER
Im towing a long and weavy trailer; 20,840 pounds (just trailer loaded)

Im towing a MONSTER RIDE TRUCK with tires on a 33' long trailer, 3 axles with 2 of those axles with brakes (thinking to add brakes to the 3rd axle).

Do you think that my Diesel Truck is capable to tow my trailer with no problems in the future? transmission issues maybe? DO I need to upgrade my transmission??

Also how much power can I add (or do I need?) to tow my trailer easier?? 40hp?? 80hp?? 150hp?? torque? 100? 200??

Im thinking to buy a Edge juice with attitude. Is this ok?

Right now, I feel that my truck start towing slow but as soon as get speed, feels ok.

Can some one of you guys have experience before or something similar can help me with this questions?

Looking at the squat in the rear I'd be thinking about a 3500 before I spent any money on upgrades. It looks like you're pushing the rears and you're also getting into CDL territory.

hi
first thing i see you need is a pair of air lift air bags 5000lb rated ones .

number on bag will be 5813 !

i will never have another truck without them !

use 2 lines and air them independantly for best handling results .

Your going to have some real problems with the rear end. You really need a 3500 series truck mininum. BUT, if your going to keep the truck. Your first need is better diff cover to handle more gear oil and some air bags. What trans do you have, auto or manual?

I would agree you might just need a bigger truck. Maybe even bigger than a 3500, 20,840 pounds is up around dodge 5500 or ford F-650 heavy. I do believe the trailer is heavy enough and if you are making a profit with the ride truck that you need a CDL.

Looks like you could also remove some weight from the rear end of the tow rig by backing the monster truck onto trailer. That will put the engine behind the axles of the trailer and will reduce the pin weight on the tow rig.

proper rear tires
do add brkes to the third axel of trlr.
exhaust brake
rear end cover for more oil.

You will not make it very far on those tires towing that load. When (not if) those tires fail, if it happens at highway speeds, losing the monster truck will be the least of your problems. Depending on where you drive it the cops are going to stop you again and again.

I have one problem, Im in Mexico and I can not import in to Mexico one truck that the GVWR is more than 10,000 pounds (stupid rule I now) that's why I bought this truck 1 month ago, so the only think that I can do is look for a dually rear end and change it for my single rear end, in that way I can have double tires in the rear, I also can buy the air bags.

I need to work with this truck, so thats why Im asking you guys to help me what I can do to this truck to improve performance and be safer during towing.

After adding dually rear end and airbags, can I add the performance chip? or what do you recomend?

Im towing (pulling) 20840 pounds but Im carring on the goose neck on the bed 3800 pounds, I can load the truck backward, in that way I can have the engine on the back of the axles helping with the weight.
is this correct?
I dont know how many load can I put on my truck.

Noticed after I posted that you were in Hermosillo. I do not think your problem is going to be in the performance of the engine--its going to be in the performance of the rest of the dirve train, especially tranny and rearend.

I would not worry about engine performance until I addressed those other things.

20,840 is the trailer and load? That would put you at around 28,000 total. With the right gearing and tires and brakes it can be done but the truck is going to wear out pretty alot faster than normal.
Dual rear tires and heavier springs would make it handle and feel alot better. I gross 24 to 28,000 alot on a triple axle trailer and 2500 truck. With the load balanced it's not bad.
One of the best towing combos I had was a ez with 65 horse injectors and a 35-40 hybrid on a 6 speed truck. Handled loads real good and kept exhaust temps in check.
