Tire Information
I have searched and not found an answer to my question so now I will post it here.....
On my stock '99 4x4 2500 CTD what size tires can I use on it....I would like to increase the size of what is there now...but I also dont want to deal with any issues with rubbing on anything. Assume I need E rated...
Also I need to know what type of tires people recommend....BFG, etc etc....
Thanks for your time!

I got the Michelin 285 16 LT tires on mine. no rub no problems. They were a little pricey but are an excellant choice. I put a pallet of stone pavers in that truck and aside form the squat youd never know they were there. Good strong sidewall. Ididnt feel any flex or sway when cornering. Same report for towing the boat. Even in soft sand at the beach they perform well. I dont even slack the tire pressure when on the beach. As long as I stay level It doesnt try to dig in. Most of my driving is on the street so I like the tread design, not real agressive so they are quiet.
Not sure about sizes, but you assumed correctly, E rated tires. I have the Firestone Wilderness AT's and have around 14,000 miles on them. No odd wear, cupping or anything, rotate them regularly, actually once. I have been pleased with them.
I have two sets of LT 285/75/16. BFG's on 8" Alcoa wheels for the summer, and Kelly's on the stock wheels for the winter. The the front BFG's will "slightly" rub on a hard turn. This is not an even issue, I'm sure this is due to the off set of the Alcoa's. The Kelly's on the stock wheels are fine. I also have a 285/75/16 on the spare, and it fits even with the Mag-Hytec rear diff cover.

I had a set of Coopers - 305/70/16s they were real nice looking and were OK until about 40k miles then they started acting funny hard to balance and . . . hard to explain. Then around 45k I noticed big time cracks between the lugs showing bands "scarry" - funny thing the tread was still fine? I was told by members on TDR that I was fortunate to get that many miles out of Coopers. I really liked them and tried to find another set (I think they were Discovery A/Ts) and was told they stopped making them. So I asked around and found that alot of guys liked the Nitto Terra Graplers. The guy who did my DTT (Tim Barber, Va. Beach) had them on his truck and spoke highly of them. So I did the 305's again, the Coopers were only load D the Nittos are E and are very quiet with very good manners. Oh I forgot to mention the 305 spare will fit in the stock location, a bit of finnessing is required but it fits - with a 1/2" between it and the 4" tail pipe. I gotta make a heat sheild one of these days. I got them on tires direct.com w/free shipping. I use dyna beads and "never" have any balance issues. Great tires - great beads - MHO

285/75r16 BF Goodrich A/Ts here. On stock rims, no rubbing what-so-ever. IMHO some of the best tires on the market, They are D rated, but if memory serves me they have the same weight rating as E rated from other manufacturers
displacedtexan,
I've had bad luck with them. I don't like changing flat tires in the mud. I've had rocks shaped like a flattened egg go completely inside a cooper tire, and they wear out fast on gravel! These are my experiences with cooper tires, maybe others have done better than I have, but I wouldn't take a set of coopers for free!
