Time for a new Trans

It is finally that time. ....

I have come to the final few miles of my relatively stock transmission.
I say relatively, because I rebuilt it myself with some DTT parts (billet servo, accumulator and apply lever and strut) and new clutches and bands.
I also have a BD valvebody that I have never been fully satisfied with and a TCI single disk torque converter.

My question and this poll are:

What (whos) transmission do you have?

What are the specs?

And why did you choose this builder?

Feel free to add an other builders if I have forgotten any......

I went with HTS and just got it installed today and am trying to relearn to drive my truck. I was originally going to go with Dave but he didn't return my call's or email so I gave HTS a call and I'm glad I did. $3740 to my door with a double deep pan (Ultimate Duty) and no core charge. He also tweaked the VB some for me and I think I'm going to like it.

I was surprised at how quickly the trans got to operating temps compared to my OEM. Running around town it stayed on 180 where my old one would hit 220. I think I'm going to like it.

The best is to call and talk to each one. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Not an option on your poll, but I vote Suncoast. I love mine, and I took a tour of there shop and talked to everyone that works there when I was on vacation. I was very impressed with there shop and customer service. And the owner is very nice also.

I think each vendor has positive features in their trans offerings. I suggest finding the closest shop to you that can do warranty work of each of the vendors in the event you have a problem.

One of the vendors mentioned sold a local guy a complete trans. The owner had a reputable shop install the trans and had some initial problems. The vendor kept suggesting fixes and the owner quickly ended up with a bill for all of the time spent on the phone and under the truck. I don't know if the owner was ever completely satisfied after that even though he did get re-imbursed for the additional expenses.

It would be nice to have "direct vendor support" in the event you had a problem or questions.

I personally have Suncoast v/b and t/c in my truck. I have passed their shops in Ft Walton FL and could take my truck to them if I needed to.

Do your homework and keep these thoughts in mind.

After their 3rd try I am really happy with the suncoast. Its not really their fault that very few 1st gen trannys get sold so the feed back is very limited. You guys in MD 33 know from the looks of my truck on a good day that it doesn't get driven gently. Ron at Suncoast took care of the problem with a 1st gen/2nd gen hybrid because the 518 is so weak, and I absolutley love it. Ernie set it up to the shift points that I like and it shifts very nice. I believe you really get what you pay for. They aren't cheap, but the Webb family has been in the trans biz longer than anyone I know.

Plus they aren't in the market to sell other diesel products branded with their name. Just Trans stuff.
