Thinking about selling ?

I'm thinking about selling my truck and wanted to know what everyone thinks. The only reason why I am looking to sell it is because I have 3 kids and it is hard to get in and out of the rear seat. Not much room back there either. I found a 2003 long bed 4 door 5spd with 136,000 on it for a good price because it was wrecked and still needs some minor body work. What do you guys think. Thanks Pete

I'll bet you'll have some interested people in your current truck - it's a fairly sought-after model.

I'd have trouble buying awrecked truck unless I know very clearly what happend to it. Also - does it now have a salvage title? If so, the resale value will be quite low.

Yes it has an R title. I am a little concerned about it too. I love the truck. The back seat is just tight with 3 car seats!!!!!!!

I don't know... I think I would keep the old truck. It is a workhorse with a lot of potential for snow, bad roads and hunting, camping etc. A van is more practical for taking kids places anyway. I would keep the truck for myself and consider another family vehicle instead. You will not get all that much for the truck anyway, and I guarantee you will regret selling it later.

Thanks for the insight. I do have another vehicle that we use. Going to camp is usually tight.

I'm thinking about the same thing. My cousin has an '03 that he has deprciated out and now it's time for a new one. He will give me one heck of a deal but the more I think about it, the more I don't know. On the early '03's, they still have the 47re which I really don't have a problem with, but if I was going to upgrade, I would want the 48re. Also, what's the power rating of the '03 SO? Anymore than what I have now? My thinking is, if you have your truck the way you want it, how much are you going to have to put into the '03 to get it where you're happy. I also have kids and want them to be comfortable but then again I think about my childhood and my parents could have cared less about my comfort in a vehicle. Heck, I was lucky to ride up front and not in the bed with the dog.

You are correct. We were lucky if we were even in car seats. My truck isn't perfect and neither is the one I was looking at. I can get the 03 for about 12,000 - 12,500. It isn't perfect either since it has R-Title. It was wrecked but most is fixed now. I was considering it because I could get around 10,000 for mine and upgrade without it costing too much.

If your set on never trying to sell the 03 than a salvage title truck "might" work for you. If your going to try to sell it in a few years your going to take a bath, don't even think of trading it in. The rule here for a salvage title is 50% the retail price no matter how it was rebuilt.

Good luck but I'd keep looking.

Pete,
I'd keep the '97. You will regret selling it. I really miss my '01.

Isn't Nick almost in a booster seat?

too bad you converted to a stick. You could have let Nick sit up front with the other 2 in back.

Jason, that is what I will probably do. Save money for a better one down the road. I like the 5spd better, don't you? Why do you miss your old one? I thought you liked "Big Red"!!!!!!!!!

I don't know, I've only owned a 6spd. and 5 spd. Never had an auto truck so I don't know if I would like it or not???

The benefits of the auto are that the wife could drive it and I would be able to drive easier in town than with the stick. It's hard enough trying to park this thing.

I miss my old truck because it was in great shape and had nothing wrong with it. Big red needs some interior work that I haven't had time to do and that is driving me crazy. Other than that, it is great.

I wouldn't buy a truck with a salvage title, whether it was in a wreck or not.

Pete, u have a gem of a truck right now. what about getting another vehicle for cheap just to haul people in. A 90's toyota 4 runner, or somthing like that, anything to be able to keep that mighty 97 12v 5spd, lol.
