ive been driving now for ayear with my spare tire chained up in my box. The lil mechanism that holds and lowers the tire seized on me and the retainer clip in shattered..that unit is toast

question is what is the unit called so i can describe it like a human being and where do i get a cheap unit?

They're available from the dealer. Mine died on my '99 under warranty. On my '07 I purchased a Master cable lock which I use to secure the tire to the body,thus taking the load off the winch.

 

thanks...i am gettign a gut feelign that this is not a 40$ item..more like 150$ probably...

I bought one from a salvage yard. I forget how much I paid but it wasn't $75.
