Control rod came off the right latch on my tailgate. A 96 2500
how in the heck do you get to the latch to reattach the control rod, I have a Hains book but it just do'nt explain in great enough detail.. Can anyone help..Mike.

 

I think you need to take off the inside panel on the tailgate.Isn't there a bunch of torx screws on the inside of the tailgates?

 

Looked to me like the only way to get in there is through the small opening that removing the handle gives you. Maybe tilt the gate around until you can fish the thing back into place. those tool retriever things with the jaws might help for grabbing the rod inside.
BTW, keep an eye on the edges of the tailgate, the metal tends to crack right at the joint of the sides and the outside skin. Nothing a few spot welds cant fix.
