sticky brakes
If I dont let my truck warm to to a good operating temp(usually in the mourning when im late) i found lately that the rear brakes (abs) feel real touchy and almost look up at slow speeds (under 10 mph). Is this due to the cold temperatures or should i plan on doing the brakes this weekend.<br>Thanks In Advance :'(<br>[shadow=blue, 2, 300]canadian cold boy[/shadow]
Re:sticky brakes
Find a safe area and do some panic stops while backing up. The Dodge adjusters need more than just a mild stop from idle. If you pull your rear drums, clean and lube your adjusters with white grease. They could be froze up and need some TLC. [ Hey, me too, now if the wifey wasn't so ornery.... :P ]
Re:sticky brakes
Mine does the same thing for about 3 or 4 stop's. I just thaught it was the hydro booster pressure oil was cold, or i should say power stearing oil. The breaks work off of Hyd. pressure to apply the breaks.
Re:sticky brakes
Mine do it only when it gets cold and rainy. All I have to do is keep one foot on the brake and one on the gass and drive it like that for a few yards and it will quit. Apply the brake lightly
I guess is gets them warmed up.

Re:sticky brakes
Mine kept doing that. At first they didn't feel like they were going to work. Then the rear brakes would grab like hell and lock or squeak to a stop. I hated it.<br><br>I pulled my rear hubs and cleaned the inside of them with brake cleaner. Then I took steel wool and went around the inside to see if there was something the brake cleaner wasn't getting. There was. There was a film on the hubs that came right out with the steel wool. Then I used steel wool to buff up the shoes. I lubed the adjusters and springs and most importantly the places where the push rods contact the shoes because that looked really rusty. While they were off I took the grinder to them with the wire brush attachment and cleaned up the outside, primed and painted them glossy black.<br><br>Now they look great with no more squeaking or lockup in the mornings. I don't know what that film was but I think thats the problem. Least it was on mine.
Re:sticky brakes
If it's been raining and the truck sits for longer than 8hrs my rear brakes will lock up on the first stop. :
It's just a bit of rust developing on the drum after it sits for a while.<br><br>Keep an eye of those adjusters though they do need a little TLC on ocasion. A little White Lithium grease does wonders for them.
