Steering Wheel Replacement?

My stock steering wheel has a good sized tear in the leather and other visible 'smooth' thin sections as well. Sometime I'd like to buy another wheel but was wondering if one off of a 2002 would work? There doesn't seem to be much difference I know but enough to make it look more up to date. I got to thinking as well. Some wheels you buy have buttons for the radio... could those buttons be used for something other than the that? I like buttons for various things but I also like having them out of sight.

Too bad your not getting any responses, I would like to know if this can be done also. If the cruise controls would work I'd make the change.

I think Geno's has a leather cover you can stitch over the original for fairly cheap. I filled the holes in the wheel caused by the tears with goop and covered with wax paper to get the shape right. Thats smooth enough to put a cover over it and youd never know it was torn

Not a bad idea... The result would be a larger diameter in terms of the grip. Its more comfortable to me to have a larger grip. My wife's car has a MOMO wheel that has to be one of the nicest OEM wheels I've ever seen.

I'm sure I'll be replacing mine at some point. The shine has already worn off and little by little I'm wearing through.

I wonder if a custom leather upholsterer would do such a service?

Thanks. I just checked out Geno's. That'd pretty much cover things up but I'm still curious about the latter 2002 steering wheel. There could be some potential with the accessory buttons I figure.

check these guys.
You could find a cheap wheel at the local junkyard to use while yours is being repaired.
