Steering Column/Pump
Steering Column/Pump
Ok well i got two questions. Since this is the first time i have truly broken the truck down, had shops do it before. I got an 02 4x4 2500 auto. Now the first question/request is an easy one. I would like someone with a similiar truck to tell me which line goes were on the back of the power steering pump, pictures with markings would be best.
Second one is because i'm such a dummy, i had to send the gearbox and pump off to PSC to be looked over. Well after i had everything disconnected i turned the wheel. I turned it quite a ways, now my question is does this hurt anything in the column? And also do you have to recenter the wheel? Please someone let me know i havent screwed up my steering column...

You probably lost your Airbag clockspring if you turned it several revolutions.....
Wait until you get it back together and see if your airbag light goes off.
In the meantime, try and put it back as closely as possible.

if i did happen to loose those what would be the proper means to fixing it? Should i take the wheel off and look at the wires? is there anything else in the column that i could have messed up. Like the turn indicator?
Also just curious does it matter how the column aligns back up. I mean i have never torn into a column so basically wherever i turn the wheel to now and hook it up to the gearbox is the new center right? Or does it have some factory center that i have lost forever. Would like to know these things before i put the gearbox and pump back on the truck. Also can you recenter the clockspring?

You need to center your clockspring before you reassemble. Turn wheel very slow and easy to the right till you feel it get a slight resistance. DO NOT turn any farther right. Turn left 2.5 turns. The wheel should be in the straight position now. Be sure wheels are straight before connecting the steering shaft.
If you turn too far right the clockspring will have to be replaced. Airbag light will light, horn not work and cruise not work.
