Starter problems
Starter problems
For the last couple weeks my 97 has been acting like the battery was dying when starting, the meter read fine. As it got worse I cleaned the posts and had the batteries and alt checked out at a local parts store. I was told that it was all good but now it wont start and acting like there is not enough juice to turn the starter. It has not been making the noise like when the starter contacts need replacing, done that on my 98. Any help would be appreciated.
Pull the starter and change the Selonoid contacters or if you can't find the contacters locally, you can get them on line. Or, you can switch the burnt out one for the other one you have that will temporarly get you going.
I'll post a picture in my Gallery that shows two contactors that came out of a 96 cummins starter. My sons. You'll see the burnt one and what the other one looked like. He just switched them and he was good to go.
Its recommended you change both out. There use to be a web site called Larry B's. You could buy some heavy duty ones there.
Sorry KD, I was writting mine when you posted yours. I was looking for the Larry B link.
