Sounds like somethings going to fall off
I have a terrible rattle that sounds like it is coming from the driver's side front axle that sounds like something is going to fall off when I hit even the slightest bump. I can also feel it on my left foot on the floorboard. This is driving me crazy. I have replaced the following: ball joints, axle u-joints, golden rod, tie rod ends, and shocks. I have inspected the body mounts and radiator supports and they are tight and in good repair. You would think that something would have to be sloppy loose but I can't find anything out of the ordinary. All welds are good also. Any ideas where else to look?
The first thing I would check is the lower shock mounts. They are terrible for coming loose and rattling on these trucks. I know you changed them, but the torque spec is 100 ft/lb, and I've found that may not be enough, especially if the new shock has a slightly shorter sleeve in the lower bushing. Get under the truck, and reach up and bounce it by the front bumper while watching the bottom of the shock closely. You will see movement if it's loose.
I have had this in the past on other trucks (94 Chevy 1500). It turned out that the clip that is on the back of the brake pad on the piston side of the caliper had broken and the brake pad was rattling over every little pebble or crack in the road. One way I checked this is to run with the window down, and when you can hear it rattling step on the brake and it would go away as the pad was under pressure by the caliper and the rattling would come right back when you let off the brake.
This is just something to look at. This is the first CTD I have owned and for that matter this is the first Dodge I have owned. I love it.
