shop couldn't download the computer???
Ok, so I had my truck in for suspected tranny issues (turned out to be nothing)-in the meantime the shop (who is very familiar with Dodge Diesels) was unable to download the computer-anyone have any idea why this might be?
Also, my check engine light is on, and I belive there is a way to pull the codes on the dash, but I don't know how-can anyone clue me in?
Thanks,
Liz

Unfortunately your '99 is one one of the few years that have to have a code reader to pull codes. I've seen some where a code reader won't work if there are loose connections at the pcm. This doesn't normally happen unless someone has been fooling around with the computer.
Suggest you disconnect your batteries for a half hour or more and see if the light goes out. There are some codes that will make the light stay on for 50 start/stop cycles even if the problem that set the code is corrected.

Ok, I will try the battery thing, and I can go down the the autozone and borrow their obd2 and get the codes, however my main concern here is that the shop could not download the comp at all....so aside from the codes, anyone have any expirience with this....no one has been messing with the comp at all, but I suppose loose connections could be an issue....any other ideas?
Thanks.

Could be as simple as their code reader isn't compatible.
As far as reading them once you get a good connection, Autozone might not even be able to pull any,
there are some that only show up for the Dealer with his fancy schamncy DRB tool.

Hmmm, one source I use says:
P0308 Misfire Detected, Cylinder No. 8
Other sources don't even list it.
I'd say it's erroneous.
1693 is the ever popular companion code, one computer saying there's a code in the other computer.

Perhaps the "he" was referring to your truck,
men call their trucks female names, perhaps women call theirs manly names?
Mine's just my truck, no names.

Wow...only 3 females on these boards? I figured it would be a low number, but not quite that low!
Alright, that aside-I tried disconnecting the battery for a while, but no luck-it didn't clear the check engine light...so am I stuck taking it to a shop and getting them to clear it at this point?
