Sensitive Overdrive

I have a 98 ram 2500 Club Cab Long Bed CTD auto. The over drive button on the end of the shift lever is ultra sensitive. If you brush the lever at all whilst driving it will cause the trans to engage/disengage overdrive. Sometimes if you hit a bump in the road it will cause this also. I'm concerned that if this happens at speed it could cause the engine to over rev and damage it, or perhaps damage the trans.
Any ideas what the cause might be and/or the solution

Thanks guys

Andy

Sounds like time to replace the switch. My old chevys cruise control was the same way. A new switch fixed the problem.

I don't have a manual for the 98 but I am sure some one on here does and would be happy to give you instructions. I'll bet if you needed a small part like that you could ask and some one would get it and mail it to you. That's what I had to do when I was working in the UK a couple of years ago. You just need patience. I sent the money to a board member and got the part in about three weeks.
