I have one key for my truck that looks like this:



Is this the non-transponder key? I assume it only works with the fob, right?

 

I really don't think any 2nd Gens had any kind of transponder system in the key. I know my '98 works fine with copied keys.

 

EDIT - Dealership confirmed that my keys do not have a transponder. The other key I have is the valet key. I don't know how it works, but it's designed not to open the glovebox or trunk (assuming your vehicle has one).

 

If yours is like mine, the trunk's always open.
