Only thing is that you need a grille as well, if you going to run the 99 and newer style Sport front end.

You could use a 98 Sport bumper with your current grille however.

Also, beware the Sport bumper is more fragile. My buddy cracked his pretty good on his 01.

You do not have to replace the chrome grill when going to a 99+ sport bumper. The 99+ sport bumper and chrome grill will fit without interferrence. You may however want to also install a 99+ sport grill to complete the sport look. The choice is yours.

How do you figure?

From the looks of it, the Sport grill dips down lower.

So, if you used the non-Sport chrome grille, you would have a gap between the bumper and grille.

You are correct. The Sport grill does dip down to follow the lines of the Sport bumper. It does leave a slight gap between the bumper and the grill but it is not all that noticable. I know of a few guys running around with a non 99+ Sport grill on a 99+ Sport bumper. A couple didn't want to pay the big $$$ for the 99+ Sport grill, while others just preferred the look of the chome.

The reason I posted was because I read your first post to mean that the bumper would not fit w/o the grill. I just wanted to mention you can install the bumper w/o the grill.

Also this applies to 98 and newer trucks only. The 99+ Sport grill will not fit 94-97 trucks that have AC without some modfications.

I have attached a pic of an 01 Sport with a non Sport grill.

Your right

Doesn't look too bad.

I like the sport grille personally.

doodah,
Does your truck have AC. I found that on 97's the AC Condensor gets in the way of the grill and grill bracket.

I really miss that truck i switched the grill with a guy from PENN. and bolted it it right up worked fine. bumper bolted right up to frame cause it came with the brackets on it.go into my gallery I think I got pix of it before paint

Thanks.

Hmmm...There must be the two different styles of AC condensors in 97. The one I had worked on had the older style of lines/brackets and they will not allow the 99+ Sport grille to fit without modfications.

I was certain the bumper brackets were the same. 97 was the first year of the new bumper bracket holes. For others reading this, the 99+ Sport bumper brackets need to be modified to fit 94-96 trucks.

Something I've been wanting to do is paint just the outside of my grill and leave just the center section chrome. I've seen a couple of 03's with just the outside ring painted and the bumper painted and I think it looks down right awesome.
