Possesed brake light

I just noticed tonight that my right hand brake light does not work. The left and the 3rd light works fine. Now here is the kicker,,,, the hazards and the turn signal works on the right side. It is only the brake light that doesnt work on the right side. When Im hooked up to a trailer the right brake light doesnt work on the trailer either. Everything else works fine just like on the truck. It cant be a bad wire or a bulb if the hazards and turn work can it? What would make the brake light not work on just one side if it isnt the bulb and why would it make the trailer brake light not work on that side?

Any clues where or what to look for? Anyone ran into this before? Im clueless,, Im not stupid but this doesnt make any sense to me! If it was a bulb or a wire, the hazard or turn would not work either,, right?

Thanks!
Keith

Check the plug connections on the connector where the wiring goes across to the right side.

Since you say the hazard and turn signal works but the brake light doesn't I would say that the problem is in the multi-function switch. I ran into the same problem when I used to turn wrenchs many years ago. You will need to access the switch wires under the steering wheel and using a test light locate your bad connection. Most likely you will find it to be where the wire is riveted to the connector.

Are you talking about the brake light switch on the pedal? I have never messed with the wiring in this truck and have no idea how it is set up. The old ford pickups I used to drive had a switch attached to the brake pedal that would extend when you would push on the brake and thus turn on the brake lights.

Ill dig into it tomorrow and see what is under there. I was thinking it would almost have to be a switch or somewhere close since it is only the brake light on one side and everything else works like it should

Thanks!

The multi-function switch is the one that you use for turnsignals and dimmer switch. It is the one that the turnsignal lever attaches to. I remember one that had symptoms similar to yours and it was a bad connection on the switch. You need to pull the steering wheel to get at it.
