Parking brake and abs light on intermitently

The lights on the dash for the abs and parking brake come on sometimes when i start my truck and then stay on. I can then park it and restart they will be off then come back on. Im thinking a bad connection somewhere or a bad ground? I dont know where the connections for the abs comp and p brake are.
Thanks
Eric

Mine has been on for about nine years or so. Code says RF wheel speed sensor out. Gotta take the whole front hub off to fix it. Coming up on 189000 miles and still got the original brakes all around.

so my brake problems are getting worse. I replaced the rear sensor on the top of the pumpkin and that didnt do anything. The problem Im having is that when the abs and brake light are on the brakes are working fine, but when they turn off and I go to stop the truck and I come below 5mph the abs motor turns off and the pedal goes soft making it hard to stop the truck. Cant seem to find any info on it.

Did you check the wire from the sensor to tell if it is working. I had a bad plug by the fuel tank and that was my problem. replaced that section and fixed my brake issue.

can i just run two new wires all the way back to the front of the truck?? I would cut the plug use two new connectors at the pumkin and then two new ones under the hood.

I used a long test wires and check the 3 connections. One is a just behind fuel tank on the frame , the next is inside the wheel well on the drivers side. Make sure there is no crud in the plugs and they are clean.test each section . my issue was the rear section and I replaced that wire from my local Dodge dealer.

If you find the wire checks out I would check (replace ) the proportion valve . The block that controls the abs breaking. Good luck.

Do you have front abs? Both wires to the front wheels were rubbing the rims and were cut. Both the abs and emergency brake light were on and went out when replaced.

Those two lights are always on in my truck, too, but I don't have any actual brake problems that I know of.

abs and brake light

I had exactly the same problem with my 96 and it turned out that the speed sensor was not tightened down to the max. Drove me crazy for 2 years.

I had intermitant ABS/Brake warning.
Turned out that the two wire harness to the rear pumkin sensor was rubbing on the parking brake cable just in front of the axle on the driver's side.
Had worn through the outter sheath, and through the wire insulation casing it to short out on the brake cable.
A few turns of electical tape, a piece of slit fuel line hose and a couple of zip ties later, and I haven't seen that light pop again while driving in three years.

YMMV

I had this same problem with my 96 Dodge with RWAL only. Also, my cruise wasn't working. Turned out I had a vacuum leak under the driver side battery box, fixed that and the cruise worked and brake lights no longer come on.
