After seven yrs I sold my '98.5 for 19k.
Used the bucks to buy my '07 5.9.
These trucks do retain their value.

I bought my '96 4X4 Manual flatbed with a 12k pound Warn winch, just like this for $10,000. Its got a salvage title and I found the damage to the passenger side when I put a stereo system in it (had the interior out). Still, I put a new set of Michelin X tires on it, new brakes all around and everywhere I go, somebody wants to buy it. I worry about it getting stolen actually, and my insurance co wouldn't even write full coverage on it.
I had a first gen club cab 4X2 auto and didn't hesitate to sell it after I bought this one. I got $6500 cash for the 1st gen and had guys lined up wanting to buy it. It was original paint with 118,000 on it. Yes, these trucks are very much sought after.

I truly had no idea. I don't want or need to sell it, but as someone else said it looks promising.

My dad has a '92 Dodge/Cummins 250 with the auto and a '93 Dodge/Cummins 250 with the 5spd. He gets unsolicited offers frequently for them, especially the '92.

I have a '94 Dodge/Cummins dually with the NV4500 and occasionally have people ask about buying it.

Personally, I don't care for the 1st Gens as they are ancient designs that date back to the '70s. The 2nd Gens, however, are probably my favorite pickups of all time. Those are the trucks that REALLY kicked off the pickup truck wars.

If I could find an '02 in good shape....

Exactly. It's not the trucks fault or Dodge or Cummins...it's the steel being devoured by mother nature...as what happenes with any steel framed vehicle there.

At $25,000 - firm I am just guessing it will sit for a while more.
Nice looking truck but I sold my really nice, solid, fully loaded '01 quad cab from AZ for less than half that in the spring.
If you can get that for it, good for you.

The new trucks have nice cabs, soft ride and bluetooth. Real nice. Once people realized that they also have the engines and emission controls as complicated as those of jet airplanes, and as expensive to fuel and to maintain, the values of older trucks went up. Five years ago I have seen second gens for $5,000 on CL; today, those same trucks are $7,500-$12,000.
I will not trade mine for a brand new one. If I did, would be to sell the new one for cheap and buy two second gens.
I also happen to think that the second gens have the best look of all the generations. The monstrous cabs of the newer trucks are too much for me.

Take a look on YouTube. There's some video's addressing the high prices people and dealers are asking for their older trucks.

My opinion is there's no point in getting angry about it because if there's people out there who will pay the asking prices for used trucks then I guess they're "worth" those prices. Thats simply how supply and demand (capitalism) works.

Craigslist pricing for pre-emission Duramax's and Cummins is through the roof in southern California.$30K+ for quad cabs.
My regcab G-56 is staying with me until I'm planted.
There's a '03 HO6 6-speed CC SB ST up the street. Under 90K.
I wish I could convince the owner to sell. He's fonder of his Duramax 6-speed.

Katoom,were the fires near you?
We're in Santa Ana winds condition with more to follow. It's DRY.
