No AC.....sorta

Just made the long drive to North Carolina and back without AC what a HOT SOB. While idleing the AC will blow colder than you can take- start driving and the air turns hot. While driving I will coast in neutral down a long hill and the air will blow cold.

Why is the clutch kicking out under a load? The clutch was new last year, system was purged and recharged.

Thanks for any info.

Sounds like the system might have a leak and needs to be recharged.

Could be what Shovelhead said, it could be the gap on the clutch is too wide and slipping under RPM.

What about the pressure switch... i.e. at idle it can't generate full pressure.. but when the engine is revved, the compressor spins faster, and goes over the threshhold for pressure, shutting down the compressor...

Maybe the expansion valve?

Or the PCM sensing some irregular condition and shutting down AC for safety reasons. Reading eventual codes could be of help before digging into the hardware stuff.

There are no codes, well ..... to do with the AC (I have a code reader here at work). My dad was also thinking it had something to do with the pressure switch but not really sure.

I had it going that far that the only code showing up was "alternator field driver circuit" but no AC...
You could also check for what the switch says before disassembly.- check for a change in continuity of hte high pressure and the low pressure switch while increasing engine speed with a DMM. (So you can rule out the pcm.)
