a/c took a dump, sorta

My air conditioner stopped blowing through the a/c vents,if i switch it to defrost and turn the **** to the cold side I get cold air coming from the defroster also if I get cold air from the floor if I switch it to that mode. I'm not getting any air from the a/c vents even if I just turn it on vent. Any clues? I did a search and read about a vacuum line being off but I checked mine and they all seem to be intact.

If you get air at the floor when dialed as such, you probably lost your vacuum solenoid for the dash vents. There was a recall on the 96's because the vacuum pump would let oil get into the vacuum lines, which slowly deteriorates the rubber diaphram in all the vacuum solenoids.

It is under the dash in the center of the dash. You access it be going under on the driver's side and looking up, towards the right. It will have a yellow vacuum hose connected to it.
See pics.

If yours is like mine, the Dodge PN is: 4720279AB

Well I went by the dealer this moring and got a print out of all the recalls for my truck and they have all been done already. #720 was done back in 1997, I don't remember that

That does not guarantee that the vacuum actuator isn't bad. You can test it yourself. Pull the vacuum line off the actuator then push the rod all the way into the actuator. Put your finger over the vacuum port and release the rod, if it comes all the wat out, the actuator is bad. It will come out a little even if the actuator is good, but I am talking about all the way.

Found the problem and had it repaired, it was a vacuum line under the hood on the passenger side, I noticed a little thin piece of wire on a rubber boot and saw where it came apart from the rest of the wire, it looks like the heat from the turbo may have been too much for it.
