Mice

Our 01 2500 is parked in an outside shed most of the winter. It has NO rust, the floorboards are intact, etc. I always turn off the heater/AC control and keep dryer sheets inside the cab and under the hood but I still keep getting mice inside the cab. At night, I've shined a light on the firewall under the hood and looked beneath the dash for an opening to no avail. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? Where could they be getting in?
Thanks

I have seen mice wiggle their way through gaps you would think are impossible. The only sure fire method I've seen to keep them away is a cat.

Mice can squeeze through cracks as small as 1/4" Something about the flexibility of their bones? The scary thing is Rats can get through a 1/2" crack.....

Anyway, the only way I ever found was lots of poison kept away from the cats that keep the rest under control.

Lock the doors!!

I had mice get in my GTO and stink it up pretty good. I did as above and cut down on the cat food so they would start mousing more and it helped...

One place they may be getting in is through the drain slot between the fender and the firewall right at the bottom of the fender. I pulled the cowl piece off and stuffed stainless steel pot scrubbers into the slot. Shredded up Irish Spring soap in an old nylon or a snuff can with holes punched in it help keep them away along with the dryer sheets.

Look around your heater core tubes.

They really like chewing electrical wires. Last truck I worked on had to get tow in because rodent chewed the wires under the PDC. I also had to change evap housing because rat died in there. Couldn't get rid of the smell. Rat poison on top of battery has been tried on many of the farm trucks and seems to work.

Monte, mice can get through such small places that until we got a whole bunch of barn cats, I could never keep the mice completely out of my truck. I took to keeping mice poison in containers in all of my vehicles that were stored in problem areas and that kept the problems to a minimum.

Nothing worse than pulling back the bed sheets to find a mouse had started storing food between your pillows. That was when I was between cats. Old Cougar died at 17 years of age and we hadn't been blessed with Roxie yet.

mice are a nuisance.. Id try rags soaked in ammonia, or moth ***** to see if the smell would keep them away.
Hopefully they dont try chewing on your wiring. Ive seen them chew blocks of poison bait into powder, and eat the stuff like health food and survive with no issues. Not much surprises me anymore.

I tried all kinds of things for years to keep the mice out of my sled during summer storage. This year I used cheap really stinky dryer sheets. This is the first year I didn't have to dig out nesting stuff and replace chewed wires
