Messed up my tailgate!

Well I got this truck about 3 months ago. And a couple weeks after I got it I forgot to latch the car dolly down and I drove the car up and it smacked my tailgate. It makes me very upset and I have to fix it. So, what are my options? I've already removed the black plastic under it. I can't seem to find a good used tailgate anyway. I did a month back but didn't have the cash and i let it slip away.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'd look at the paintless dent removal guys. I had something similar happen to my wife's truck, and the guy fixed me up really good. Cost me about 200 bucks.

It is like a creased dent though. It would probably need bondo'd or something to smooth it out. Its not a big or really bad dent.

That's a little beyond the paint less dent guys, that one is a body repair job. It's between the body lines on a relatively flat panel so it is an easy fix.

The repair will be way way cheaper than a new tailgate shell, that's for sure.

Put a DTR sticker over the top of it.

J/k couldn't resist. Looks like its gonna be body shop to me too, that crease is pretty strong and is gonna need some persuasion. FWIW I forgot to latch the ball on my gooseneck once and loaded a skid steer on to it. Have a really nice drain in the bed of my truck now.

I would take it to a body shop and get it fixed. Don't be tempted to buy one of those $98 tailgates on Ebay- your factory tailgate is 10x's stronger.

I would just take it to a shop and have it done and suck it up then be done.

You would need stud welder to pull it out and then apply a little bit of filler.

I have a fifth wheel tailgate too, but I think it looks dumb considering I don't have a fifth wheel.

Anyway I'm going to get some estimates and see how much it will cost. I'm hoping it will be around the $200 range but I have no idea.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it!

I had a very similar dent from loading trench digger into the bed with the gate down over an embankment/retaining wall. Thought I had enough clearance, apparently the digger was heavier than I thought! I just sanded it down, bought some bondo, sanded and re-applied, then painted. Kinda fun once it comes out good! Been that way for three years, as long as you leave it a little rough for the filler to grab onto and have patience to sand it even it works fine.

Since I don't have enough patience to fill, sand, paint, & buff, I'd just take it in & get it fixed. Tailgate comes off so you won't even be out of a truck. A sign/printing company can make the lettering or just have the lettering painted on. A shop can knock that out easy & should cut a nice cash deal.
