Im sure other more experienced guys will do this but I know for a fact dieselwrks has a thread going with alot of information for this very thing on it. As for the braking, get the gm 1 ton rear cylinders, brakes like a ferrari....well almost

plus many more options/variations. these are just a handful of links to products with good reviews on here.

braking:
upgrade rear slave cylinders to GM one ton cylinders
upgrade front disc setup to '03 disc setup (larger discs and pads) - need a new caliper bracket and 17" wheels for proper fitment
flush the brake fluid and replace with new . . .

i'm sure others will chime in, but this should point you in the right direction. try searching also, lot's of good info and days and days of reading if you want to put in the time!

of the threads i have read you basicly just need to get the "hd" steering setup

http://oemmoparonline.com/catalog/pr...ducts_id=78739

I did the box and steering brace with no difference and thats with all brand new factory front end parts, had i known about the "hd" interchange i would have done that, now i will wait till these parts wear out to upgrade

yes, looks like you need to remove the stud from the steering damper cause the new T setup comes with the stud on a movable bracket, no nuts are included

I know I sound like a broken record I just wanna be sure before I purchase it, this is everything I need for the upgrade. This is the t steering upgrade right? I dont have to buy anything else for the upgrade? Except nuts nd bolts

Buy a third gen might be easier/cheaper.

The third gen trucks had a lot of suspension and frame geometry redesign. My friends 02 1/2 ton handles like a car and is really easy to park, even as a 4x4.

I would talk to Don Thuren. I am pretty sure he makes a changeover kit for the inverted style the third gens have. If anyone would know it would be him and he used to answer the phone when you called.

The third gen front rotors and calipers will bolt directly on your truck but you will need to increase your wheels to 17" minimum to clear them.

Chevy wheel cylinders in the rear, short of switching to a disc brake set up from an 01.5/02.

I don't think the 3rd gen brake upgrade will work on a 1996. The 2nd gens didn't get the slide-off rotors and dual piston calipers until 2000 model year. On the 96, the calipers attach right to the steering knuckle instead of attaching to a caliper mount like the newer trucks.

stopped at the shop and the mech said the setup bolted right up he just needs to adjust it and find a new steering shock cause he said it would be cheaper then him trying to get the old one to work

no test drive yet

Keep us posted!! I'll be going on track bar #4 and even though it has a lifetime warranty, I'm getting tired of messing with it. Will this kit work on an '01.5?
